The biggest takeaway I had for roster battles was Solomon showing burst and ability to get to the QB while Jonathan had I think 3 penalties. That’s a good way to get yourself cut.

Same with Williamson on his boneheaded PF penalty.

It’s hard to judge a game like this because Chicago is in their 2nd game with their rookie starting and the # 1 offense of the Bears playing the whole first quarter against a Bills defense that was missing Jones, Oliver after the first play, Milano and a lot of starters out after a few plays.

With the Bears offense controlling the Bills offense never even really got a chance to get it going with a very vanilla plan

Buechele brought a little juice but he’s lacking of pure talent, Trubisky has some talent but no juice, doesn’t elevate anyone out there.

Josh, please stay healthy

I thought that Mitch Trubisky was a sizable upgrade over Kyle Allen.  Now it looks like more of a wash.  Mitch is more physically gifted but some of the throws today…woof

That’s kind of the problem of a contested catch specialist. If you don’t obviously beat your man and he doesn’t obviously commit PI, you are gonna not get as many calls.

Except he isn't a contested catch specialist.  But I look forward to hearing you spin your takes on him later.

And grabbing his jersey with the left hand and holding his chest with the right hand on his break then going over the back of the receiver when the ball is still 3 yards away from the WR is obvious PI.

But for you to acknowledge that doesn't support your bias, so why would you right

Watching that I see the tug it certainly could have been called. I think that little tug that early in the route in the endzone on a ball that may not be catchable is a 50/50 call though. You will get that some games. You won't others.

But he was over the back of Keon holding him down when the ball was still 2 to 3 yards from even reaching Keon...to me that should always be called.  And Keon had the route and position, so that is a potential TD without the interference.  To be fair, it wasn't a great pass either, so a better pass would have helped.

I spent four hours at a funeral (seriously). At least I liked him a lot, and I didn’t see any more of that game.

It's a little bit of a stretch to frame Morse's release like that. They didn't make changes just for the sake of making changes. His contract was coming up, he's 32 years old and showing decline, and he was due a hefty amount at a time when the Bills were trying to reload and sign impact players at other, more needy positions. He was just an average player that they knew they shouldn't have much trouble replacing. His strength was pass blocking and the Bills' pass locking looked fine today. Morse wasn't a great run blocker. I think it's a wash.

I think the major effect of the change is moving McGovern from left guard.  Dawkins and McGovern together was stronger.

Bad day: Trubisky. I don’t understand how that guy can be on an NFL roster.

He sucked, had he been a 5th round pick he’d probably be looking for a camp invite, his potential seems to keep people waiting for him to be more than he is.

Seemed to me like the contact/hold of the jersey was why he couldn’t get up higher to make the catch.

Aaron Kromer’s two strengths as an OL coach is tailoring techniques to best fit the players’ strengths and game planning. No game planning in this game so I am not too concerned about OL. Reality is you have 5 of the 6 who played meaningful snaps last year back they will figure it out, plus Torrence and Brown should still be ascending players.

Super Bowl Bills routinely went 0-4 or 1-3 in preseason and often looked horrible.

I really think we need to bring in another QB and another Punter. I don’t think that Buschele belongs in the NFL and I’d like to see Martin at least pushed a little. Your 3rd string QB should be a super raw guy with talent that needs to be fine tuned. That’s a spot where if you don’t have upside, you don’t need to be here. Go get a kid that can either run like the wind or throw it 80 yards. There is nothing you could ever do with that guy today. I don’t even want to see him in preseason mop up. He’s wasting everyone’s time.

Ryan Tannihill is still available. That might actually be a good idea incase (god forbid) Josh went down

if you look close at the 2.5 second mark his jersey is being pulled.  I mean it doesn't matter because the throw is so bad but there was definitely too much contact.

That's not really a good example of Coleman having an issue with separation. He actually does manage to get leverage and create a window, albeit a tight window. A better throw and he would have had a chance. Their feet got tangled up so maybe it wouldn't have mattered.

Anyways there's too much analysis over a single rep. That's Jaylon Johnson, one of the elite CBs. There is no shame at all in Coleman not getting yards of separation in the tightest area of the field against an elite CB in his first ever live action. Clown Football is an appropriate name for that account.

Good:

Soloman

Douglas

Elam

Shakir

SVPG - thought he looked good getting to second level - rooting for him to make the coaches have to move McGovern back

Bad:

Both backup QBs stink

Our 4th - 5th string guys had bad showings

I did not like the pass pro of the backup OTs

Worth mentioning.  The Bears are a playoff team.  They have a great defense and if Caleb is the real deal they can easily make the playoffs in that crap conference.

Everyone except the folks who matter, the officials who didn’t call a penalty.

Has absolutely nothing to do with whether it was the right decision or not

My take away is that the cut down to 53 won't be that difficult.

This was one of my biggest takeaways as well.  For players on the roster bubble this was a huge opportunity.  And yet, I’d argue none of them did anything to help their standing (I.e. MVS, Shavers, Isabella, Shorter, Morris, Hamler, Davidson, Collins, Clapp)

All the Bills Olines embarrassed themselves today.

The first team did fine pass blocking.  The interior just couldn’t get any movement in the run game.  I’m not too worried because the same thing happened last preseason.  Bills were fine with rushing the ball

No… the player in coverage is Jaylon Jones #21.  Not Jaylon Johnson #1.

Jones is his backup

I may be wrong but I seem to remember during preseason in those years the starting offense would come in and score a TD in 48 secounds and leave the game.
