Went back to sleep, got to the graduation the next morning and I was talking to one of the other dudes in line and he grew up there and I asked him what the hell that jet engine sound was last night. And he was like what are you talking about? So I told him what happened and he laughed and was like "Yeah, that hasn't happened in a long time, but I've heard it a few times...it's when there is so much lightning going on that you just get constant, non-stop thunder for a long time..." That was the last time I have been in Kansas and I ain't coming back anytime soon. I remember that storm that you're talking about coming through. I actually also graduated from Fort Hays State University, but back in the early 2000's. One of the storms that destroyed my Grandparents' farm started down in Oklahoma....and came up through Kansas and totaled much of the small town of Greensburg, and kept on going including when it hit my Grandparents' farm, and still kept going across much of the state of Kansas before finally slowing down. It was pretty dark, the wind was whipping and the rain was coming down in buckets. That wasn't the most peculiar thing I saw today, tho. On my way back home I saw a pickup truck flipped over in a lot near the city mission. Didn't appear to be an accident or anything, just a truck on its face. Anyone else catch that? I think the question was more about, did the civil defense sirens go off (we call them "tornado sirens" here in Missouri)? Were there emergency warning text messages sent out to subscribers? Is there a gov't emergency warning text message service and do people sign up for it?
