I expect Coleman to end up with more targets than Hollins to end the season.

Also a good chance he will be a starter very soon.

It's the pre 1st preseason game depth chart.  The older vet is penciled in.

IMO.

Correct.

Also the depth chart will continue to change after each practice and each pre-season game up until opening day.  The WRs are a particularly fluid group.  Shakir and Samuel are the only 2 guaranteed PT.  Everyone else is vying for a place on pecking order.  Coleman and Hollins are guaranteed a roster spot, but neither is guaranteed PT, although we have to hope that Coleman has good rookie year.  After that everyone else is trying to earn a job with only 2 real roster spots available.  Right now I'd say MVS and Shavers are leading the race.  Claypool, Hamler and Shorter all have injuries of one kind or another, but there is still time for one of them to step up.  Shorter had been playing gunner of STs while Hamler was in a battle with Hardy for the KR job.

Preseason game 2 is in the books.  There was some good play by a few bubble players that helped their cause. Ingram and Hardy probably solidified their roster spots.   There was also some mediocre play by some known vets (or in Trubisky’s case terrible play) that hurt their cause.  Trubisky also got hurt.

QB (2) - Allen -  Bubble Trubisky and DiNucci

RB (3) - Cook, Davis, Johnson PS - Gore and maybe Evans

FB (1) - Gilliam

WR (5) - Shakir, Samuel, Coleman, Hollins, MVS (injured) - PS Shavers, Hamler or Shorter

TE (3) - Kincaid, Knox, Morris. PS - Davidson

OL (9) - Starters - Brown, Torrence, Edwards, McGovern, Dawkins; Backups - Van Denmark, Anderson, Grable, SVPG.   Cut - Collins.  PS - Clapp?

Specialists (4) - Bass, Martin, Ferguson and Hardy (KR/CB)

DE (6) - Rousseau, Miller, Epenesa, Smoot, Solomon.  Bubble Jonathan if they keep only 5.  PS Cline.  Cut - Toohill

DT (4) - Oliver, Jones, A Johnson, Carter.  Bubble - D. Williams (if someone gets hurt or they keep 5).  PS - Ankou

LB (5) - Benard, Williams, Jones. Bubble - Spector, Ulofoshio, Andreessen, Morrow.  Morrow and Spector have injuries.  Milano may have to start the year on the 53 man roster if he might come back this season.  Right now I see Andreessen to the PS and Morrow cut.

CB (5) - Douglas, Benford, Johnson, Elam, Ingram. (Hardy is CB 6 but is already accounted for).

S (5) - Rapp, Hamlin, Bishop, Lewis. There is a job here for someone, probably K Jackson. IR - Edwards

There is one job “open”.  Does it go to WR6, OL10, DT5, or S6?  Milano’s status may cause a temporary LB6.  Injuries may also cause a S6.

Rules changed, you can now put 2 players on IR before final cuts and bring them back during the season.  Don't know if you have to designate who the 2 are or can wait and see how the injuries work out?  But either way, he can start out on IR.  With the injuries that happened yesterday, wouldn't be shocked if Milano is moved to IR in next couple of days.

I read up on the new rule and you don't have to decide on the 2 players until the cut deadline, but they can be put on IR at anytime during the summer.  I'm going to assume the Bills wait on Milano to see what the doctors say.

IR

1) Milano

2) Edwards (s)

I think a better chance Edwards goes to IR, but then is released with injury settlement as from what I read, didn't sound like he looked that good even when he was playing in the spring.  It may be they keep him more out of desperation.

I wonder too, with this new designation, is the a minimum number of weeks you need to be on IR, 6 games I'll assume??

Very reasonable roster.

I think a trade/waiver claim is in the future for this team at WR and Safety though.

Ulofoshio is going to be interesting.  He and Andressen are the same size, age...seemingly similar players with Ulofoshio having more pedigree.

It will depend on who shakes loose and how healthy guys like Bishop get before the season starts.  He is back to doing conditioning drills.

As to the WR. I'd cut everyone after Hollins (I'm not a fan of his either) including MVS, Shorter, Shavers, Isabella, Hamler etc.... I don't see anything so far that tells me they can help this team.  Granted I'm not seeing practice or film on the special teams work, but they all look awful with the offense.  I'm praying someone better gets cut elsewhere.

At this point, I'd keep Davidson as TE4, and move Kincaid around the field as both TE and WR.  Similar to how UGA utilized Brock Bowers.  Bowers lined up in the slot, with the O-line in 11 and 12 personnel and occasionally as a traditional boundary WR.  Kincaid is likely to be our top targeted receiver anyway.

Think of it this way.  Would we be so worried about WR if the roster looked like this

TE (3) - Knox, Morris, Davidson

WR (5) - Kincaid, Shakir, Samuel, Coleman and Hollins

Wouldn’t “everyone after Hollins” include Coleman?

No. Coleman is WR3 and Hollins WR4.

Just to throw a WR name out there who maybe could be had for a 6th round pick or 2026 6th or 7th round conditonal pick

Terrace Marshall Jr.  He is in Carolina and seemingly on his way out, he has been with Joe Brady at LSU and in Carolina.  He has the size they seem to be in the market for also.

Just putting it out there.

Figures....the 2 guys we sign from the Chiefs, flame out for us.  Andy working his voodoo magic.  I'd put Andreessen ahead of Morrow and even with Jones.  DeShawn Williams looked terrible yesterday.

Again, it's just a difference of approach. WR is not like QB. This kid is essentially being asked to "go out to the green Chevy and turn around". I find it hard to believe that that should be a huge challenge for him....and if it is, then why was he selected as their Top Pick? It can be said that just as much damage can be done by NOT starting him. If Hollins does well (and as a fan I'd certainly hope that he does), then what does Coleman need to do to get on the field? Does he just sit their and sulk? It's a Catch 22.

It’s not really quite that simple. NFL WR run a bunch of choice or option routes, where a WR may be asked to run a flag route if the defense is in a cover 2, unless the CB I playing outside leverage. TheWR and the QB may interpret the same information differently. This is wher experience and multiple reps become important.

im not sure why, but JA and Davis had a bunch of misreads last year. One let directly to OT loss at Eagles last year.

There is no way we keep just 5 WR's. Not gonna happen.

Was just one game for Andreessen, don't recall anything about last week, but from what I've also read even before Andreessen great game yesterday, sounded like Morrow was in trouble of being cut.
