Yes, you can.

Even in your post above when I got to the word "injuries" a little pee came out.

I turned a little red in the face as I was in a meeting and I was worried others knew.*

(* Yes, I read TSW threads in work meetings.)

We hate preseason injuries because the games don’t count, but players can get hurt in practice.

Preseason has become totally meaningless. If the actual team isn’t going to play then why do they even have these games?

To assess fringe players are non starters is about all pre season is good for.

Mitch Trubisky should play 4 quarters plus overtime

Unless he stinks up the field, than yank him

They should also make him play in the nude.

I’ve always thought the starters should play a quarter, and if the NFL was smart BOTH teams would do the same and treat that first quarter as a glorified scrimmage with only limited hitting.

Its for the guys fighting for roster spots mostly.

See my response above. I believe they can use quarters two, three and four for that.

I like it simply so the linemen get a new team to hit, the WRs need reps, and even just scripting 10 or 15 plays gives you a chance to make sure things go well (cadences, motion rule changes, lining up correctly, etc).

I never liked the "starters don't play preseason" teams, they always seem to come out flat in the first month.

Would love to see an actual study of how "those" teams fare in first quarter of season (or even first two games) compared to teams who play their starters some/more. Seems like low-hanging fruit for some nerdsite to create compelling content during this most thirsty time.

Some should play a series or two that are new to their position... Like McGovern, Shakir, maybe Samuel... etc.. although I may keep guys like Rapp out of there

Can't put certain projected starters out there without also putting their position group compadres out there if you want to truly assess things. If McGovern has to play, which I don't disagree with, then shouldn't Edwards and Torrence also be out there with him, simulating the IOL calls and adjustments and combos and whatnot?

Every defensive player should play until they make a tackle. Every offensive player should play until they make one catch

This is progress. This is the future.

Chris Brown: "Josh Allen takes the field, again. Here he is playing his 11th consecutive preseason quarter in his quest to catch a forward pass."

Steve Tasker or some other jabroni: "Some say it's reckless. Some say worse. But the Bills believe he needs to get in rhythm before they take the field in Week One."

Agree as long as starters due not have any lingering issues.

Also Josh has to be given instructions not to fight for more yards, etc or he will be pulled.

What about the specialists?

Without even a helmet? JMO but I think that's going a bit too far.

Josh could get injured just as easily being pulled as opposed to fighting for more yards on his own.

The flying wedge resulted in player deaths during football games. The players would sew straps on the ball carriers to help pull them along. Ball carriers died. Teddy Roosevelt banned the flying wedge.

Yours is definitely not a good suggestion.

Josh saw limited action during preseason in 2023. He didn't look sharp against the Jets in the season opener, throwing multiple interceptions. The Bills lost a critical division game to start 2023.

I'd like to see Josh get at least 5 or 6 full quarters to knock off the rust and get familiar with his new batch of receivers and linemen.

Same here. I would like to see them get some game action as well. In the case of Allen, he needs to be told not to run and if anyone gets close to him just throw it away. Winning these games isn't a priority.
