This was unnerving me, so just to make sure the machine was working, I looked up Trump’s economic policy speech Thursday, including this 358-word ramble about child care, word for word:

“Well, I would do that, and we’re sitting down — you know, I was, somebody, we had Sen. Marco Rubio, and my daughter Ivanka was so impactful on that issue. It’s a very important issue. But I think when you talk about the kind of numbers that I’m talking about, that — because, child care is child care. It’s, couldn’t, you know, it’s something, you have to have it — in this country, you have to have it.

“But when you talk about those numbers compared to the kind of numbers that I’m talking about, by taxing foreign nations at levels that they’re not used to — but they’ll get used to it very quickly — and it’s not gonna stop them from doing business with us. But they’ll have a very substantial tax when they send product into our country.

 

“Those numbers are so much bigger than any numbers that we’re talking about, including child care, that it’s going to take care. All boomers are not the same. I get the bias against us. No doubt we reaped the rewards of a great era in America. Affordable housing chief among them. The fact that most of us will get Medicare and social security. But we are diverse and many of us want similar lives for younger folks. We just don’t agree on how to do that. Going back in time is neither possible nor desirable imo. We need to work in the present.  My greatest concern for younger folks is the climate. Not something we have the ability to fix.

Child care is a federal issue. The US is looking at negative population growth, which will be hurtful to the economy and the general population. The Fed government has a responsibility to make child care cheaper to increase birth rate or to increase immigration to offset any decline in population.
