Even after seeing a few false reports (trolls) about the nature/severity of Cole’s injury on social media. The report was that his arm was heavily wrapped (I assumed ice), and that he left the field but remained at practice. These were some promising “clues” to me. Given that nothing has been made public, I’m growing a bit more worried. Especially with the day off today. Quote
Buffalo_Stampede Posted July 31 Posted July 31 Wow. So the safety injuries cost us a punter some thought could win the job. Quote

When evaluating Poyer last season, it's probably important to keep in mind that 20-30% of the time, he was essentially being asked to play "linebacker lite" up near the LOS, substituting for Dodson and with Rapp backfilliing him at Safety But yeah, it was pretty clear he had lost a big step (Hyde too) 1 Quote

He's almost surely getting an MRI today. Quote
sven233 Posted July 31 Posted July 31 The more the safety position gets depleted, the more I am sure Hyde will play for this team at some point this season. It will not obviously be during camp and the preseason but, unfortunately, it may be earlier in the season than would be desired depending on the length of these injuries. Hopefully these guys will be able to come back sooner than later, but one is a vet that has been out basically since he got here and hasn't had many on field reps and the other is, while a promising rookie, is still a rookie. They may need Hyde just to get them through a few games if the position turns into a liability. Frustrating injury start to camp at that position. Quote

Poyer and Rapp play the same strong safety position, if he were here, we'd still need to be signing guys for the more Free Safety spot. Obviously McDermott doesn't do the traditional SS/FS spots, but skill set wise he likes an in the box hard hitter who can cover (Poyer/Rapp) and a rangy deep safety with ball skills (Hyde/Bishop/Edwards/Hamlin). Hyde would be the one you'd want back, and frankly the man clearly is mentally not prepared to play, so you don't want him. I Loved Hyde, but he's old, worn down, and mentally not where he needs to be. Even if he reported today, that's not a solution. 1 Quote

I guess we can surmise it wasn't believed to be broken, because otherwise he'd be off getting it set. But tendon and ligament injuries can be as hard or harder to heal up. I wouldn't worry about the "nothing made public" though. If McDermott et al weren't required to speak to the media re: injuries, they wouldn't, ever. They are never required to speak to the media on a day off, so they won't. Plus, he may be in Buffalo getting further tests, specialist exams, etc 1 Quote
Blank Stare Posted July 31 Posted July 31 Damn. Was hoping Browning would beat out Martin for the full time gig. Oh well…have to adjust when injuries strike. Quote

Personally, I thought Terrell Burgess is more of a career Special Teamer. He's played in 43 games but only started 4; last season he played a grand total of 3 defensive snaps until the last 3 games of the season. On the other hand, he played 82% of the ST snaps for the Commanders and played a lot of teams for the LAR. I don't really think it has much to do with Bishop at all, other than him playing less right now means Hamlin gets more defense reps and they need someone to backfill on ST. (Kareem Jackson has never played much on ST) Edited July 31 by Beck Water Quote

I'm sure you're intimately acquainted with the Hydes and have the inside track on Micah's mental state </sarcasm> I don't disagree Hyde should not be looked to as a solution for the season, and obviously Beane is of that mind or he'd be on the roster. 17 minutes ago, Blank Stare said: Damn. There are at least a dozen other players at different positions who likely have close to 0 chance to make the roster at this point. I think we can safely surmise that if Browning had a real chance to beat out Martin at this point, Beane would have cut one of them. Edited July 31 by Beck Water 1 Quote

Bernard basically sat out all of camp then started week one. McD probably ready to suit up himself! Quote
