Milanos Milano Posted July 26 Share Posted July 26 Now that Allen has some kind of developing ankle issue, we have no answer if he goes down for any amount of time. Mitch is not a viable backup. We should have drafted a 2nd or 3rd round QB to have groomed for difficult moments. People will say this is not a legitimate worry, but Allen relies on movement in the pocket and out of the pocket. He lives on his ankles. Ankles already being taped up and with a full work load every single week will just add to that stress. I mean look at how much it bothered him at the end of practice. You're mad because they didn't draft a 5th - 7th round qb (that wouldn't be the backup anyway)? Again, who is the guy they missed out on that you believe "solves" this backup QB problem. If Josh is out for a huge amount of the season, a 2nd round pick backup is NOT going to lead us to the SB. If he's out a few weeks, the goal is to have a QB that can lead us to a 500 record. Of course it depends greatly on who we're playing for those few weeks. If the Bengals and Chiefs are there, likely we won't win with any backup. Even if we limped into the playoffs, we wouldn't go far. Bc Montana and Young is very much the rule and not the exception, right? And we're also talking 30+ years ago here. There isn't even 32 good starters in the league. If you're a good QB on the Free Agent market, you're signing with a team that: a.) Is going to start you - not us b.) Is planning on Drafting a QB where you might be the bridge - not us c.) Has a bad veteran starter, where they might put you in at some point - not us d.) Has a young QB that hasn't looked amazing since being Drafted - not us e.) Has nothing solid at QB and you'll be given an opportunity to compete for the starting job with other mid-tier vets - not us f.) Has an aging QB on their last legs - not us g.) Has a QB who is often injured - not us h.) Has a QB coming off a major injury or is suspended to start the year - not us We are absolutely not a destination for QB's on the Free Agent market any way you slice it.
