in all seriousness, he and his wife lost a child to drowning. That changes your perspective on what's important. I wish peace to his family.

Indeed and good for this person to see that priories are family... How much money is enough... good luck to him.

I don't know when he'll (be forced to) return the money but I'd bet he's retiring for good.  And the Dols will definitely go after the signing bonus.

i mean... He didn't play and he didn't get hurt so I'd assume he just gives it back.  I assume team lawyers and player agents can figure this out for him.

Yup.  He didn't earn any of it (maybe a workout bonus or something) so he'll have to give it back.  He just joined them so it's not like he's a longtime fan favorite they'll just let keep the money.

Yeah,  unless Barrett has said it was about the death of his daughter that's a lot of speculation by @Roundybout regarding a very sensitive topic.

man i didnt remember this was him.  major life changing event like that will have you seeing life totally different.  would no doubt change you forever.  hes got a newborn in the house again, would bet he wants to soak up all that time while shes young for once after missing so much time away from growing kiddos. probably some fear involved too

wonder if they moved, would be hard to be in that house. at minimum id need to cement over the pool. absolutely brutal. for their sake, i hoped they moved signing with miami, and hes just wants to see his newest little tot grow up

"The Miami Dolphins are waiving former Pro-Bowl  edge rusher Shaq Barrett from the Reserve Retired list today. Barrett can play again this season if he clears waivers Friday. If another team claims him, then Barrett would be ineligible to play the rest of this season. “We appreciate the Dolphins giving Shaq this opportunity to continue his career in the NFL,” said Barrett’s agent Drew Rosenhaus. “Hopefully he will pass through waivers and become a free agent so he can play again this season. He is in great shape and would be ready to play immediately.”

Beane should definitely be on the phone trying to convince him to sign with us

Rumor was he was gonna sign with Philly, I think

Forget just Beane, Von should be reaching out too.

Shaq is credited as saying Von (and D-Ware) saved his career. Sure he’d be thrilled to team up with Von again and be part of a defensive line rotation.

never forget his pick six against the Bears a few years back. 20-17 Bucs leading with less than 5 min to go in the game right at the goal-line.

Joe Davis: "intercepted by Shaq Barrett. fighting at the goal-line for a pick six!!"

Can anyone explain why he would be ineligible to play this season if a team claims him off waivers, but eligible if they don't?

Anybody watch film on this guy?

His box score scouting is pretty average. He's a single digit sacks per year DE, except for 2019, when he had 19.5.

He's been playing since 2015 and his 2019 sack total is 1/3 of his career sacks.

He's an old Epenesa unless he does something nuts on film that doesn't show up on the stat sheet.

I’m pretty sure it’s because if nobody claims him his contract is void and he can sign a new contract with anyone and play. If he’s claimed on waivers the team claims his current contract and he wasn’t activated from IR before the deadline so he’s not eligible to play.

I will counter this with two words…. AJ Epenesa

young, healthy, still playing football and under contract for another year.

we're good.  we don't need another old Bronco mercenary straining to make an impact on the All-22.....
