US Egg Posted August 17 Posted August 17 Just saw some old time baseball, a complete game, and a shutout. Mets Severino. That MLB is kicking around a 6 inning mandate for starters is interesting, but, don’t think it will fly. Quote

I'm so sick of Rob Manfred and his stupid ideas O's win and Yanks lose. Back to a tie Quote

Thats because kids start throwing all year at a early age instead of playing other sports or just plain resting the arm in their offseason IMO 3 Quote

Now they think they can change the pitching mindset that evolved from the pitch count. 1 Quote

With all the pitching injuries, he's constantly come up with quality starts. Of Suárez's 17 starts, eight have been scoreless. No pitcher in MLB has more scoreless starts in 2024 (with a minimum of two innings pitched in each outing), as Cincinnati's Hunter Greene, Atlanta's Reynaldo López and Seattle's Bryce Miller are tied for second with seven. https://www.mlb.com/news/albert-suarez-extends-scoreless-streak-in-win-over-red-sox#:~:text=Of Suárez's 17 starts%2C eight, tied for second with seven. Jamie Moyer is a good example of a pitcher that can augment a team’s season in a very positive way without being an ace. He pitched until he was about 68. There aren’t any of those any more. Maybe 5 in the entire MLB. The rest are all stars, injured stars, or lottery tickets with no control. If one team decides to develop a couple Moyer types, they may end up with a Maddux. The kid Bloss from Houston looked like a guy who would fit that because he is super smart and conscious of changing speeds and locations, but they just had to try to get an extra 4 MPH out of him. 1 Quote

Maybe 5 in the entire MLB. The pitch count created all heat, limited finesse. It’s been the mindset for decades. Kids coming up are trained in that mode. Going to be quite awhile to develop pitchers throwing like Moyer effectively. Baseball now wants more of what they eliminated. Good luck. You got guys throwing 75-85 m.p.h. knuckleballs, who’d ever think that possible? Not me. Quote
