Anonymous NFL Exec: "Josh Allen is one of the more overrated players in the NFL"

Recommended Posts

I find the evolution of sports writers' contrasting views of Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson -- both of whom were drafted in 2018 and had plenty of naysayers -- to be very interesting.

As we know the predictions of Josh Allen's prospects as an NFL player varied widely -- with little in between. Essentially, he was the classic boom or bust prospect with traditional scouts loving his measurables -- but new-wave analytics guys hating his college stats and how they projected to the pros.

Meanwhile, there were many prognosticators that did not think that Lamar Jackson could even play the QB position in the NFL at all -- and that he was destined to evolve into an NFL WR or TE.

Clearly the critics of both QBs were wrong. The difference is that the Jackson critics have almost unanimously come around on him -- and even expressed shame for having doubted him. For Josh, while a great many of his doubters have also come around to him as well -- there are still many of them out there that refuse to admit that they were wrong and are continuing to die on the hill that he doesn't read defenses well, is turnover-prone, has a poor completion %, etc. They look for the slightest weakness in his game, exaggerate it -- and use it to "justify" their misgivings about him when he came out of college. When he fails to exhibit the accuracy and consistency of a Brady/Montana/Brees, the critics call him "over-rated". Never mind that at his best, Josh is capable of out-playing any QB who has ever lived. It really is weird.

Josh himself will tell you that there are things that he could do better. Be smarter with the ball, continue to work on his accuracy, cut down on unnecessary risks, etc. But to call him overrated is simply asinine.

The most remarkable thing about Lamar (and josh for that matter) is he hasn’t suffered a career altering injury yet. He’s a great football player but doesn’t have a golden arm and relies on his legs. This type of player has been seen before in the nfl but usually doesn’t have a long shelf life.

The Bills are literally a 2 win team without Allen and yesterday proved that again. If Allen doesn't go God mode on a weekly basis, we are in real trouble. Meanwhile, teams like the Steelers, Ravens, 49ers,  etc have gotten into the playoffs with backup QBs the past few years......

If there is anyone in the world who’s better than Josh, it’s only one.

Josh is the ENTIRE Bills franchise.

Josh ALONE makes the Bills SB contenders.

Without Josh, the Bills would be picking top 3 every year easy.

Nobody outside the Bills and their fans know any of this because people are stupid and know NOTHING about Bills football. FACT.

Yep. If Trubitsky started yesterday, we get killed. If he was the guy last year, no way we win that Steelers playoff game (where Allen again took over) and no way we have the hot finish. Only other QB that would have us playing at the level we are now is Mahomes. Jackson has a lot more help in Baltimore and Stroud has alot more help in Houston than Allen does here. Burrow is significantly overrated it appears when Chase and Higgins aren't on it.

Also, never started his career with 3 HOFers like Mahomes did (Hill, Kelce, Reid).

Allen has been a one man wrecking crew since DAY ONE here and people who bash Allen have NO CLUE about this either.

The true testament to Allen’s talents are when he was a ROOKIE and he didn’t have a losing record in games he started and finished with one of the worst offensive rosters in NFL history. FACT.

I remember in 2018, after the Vikings game, I felt the Bills has a chance to win every game simply because of Allen, AS A ROOKIE.

Name me another QB who would win games. AS A ROOKIE, with what Allen had the displeasure of working with? I’ll wait.

Only people who should talk about Allen being over-rated are the Dolphins. As their daddy he's rarely around, definitely gives them spanking, and lives rent free in their heads. Definitely over-rated as a father figure.

If Bills did not have Allen then another QB would have been starter not Trubitsky.  Trubitsky is backup because team is structured around Allen including money;  Bills would likely be playing on a rookie QB not because Pegulas unwilling to pay for good QB but because there are few QBs worth what they are being paid these days.
