As Big Poppy on Dan Lebatards show years ago called Roger.

Fidel Goodell.

Remember when us Bills fans thought it was so cool when Goodell became commissioner because he was born or raised in Jamestown NY?

We thought, great, maybe he will swing some power and calls towards the Bills...

Wrong!

He's closing in fast on the most hated commissioner Gary Bettman as # 1

The NFL is an absolute joke when it comes to disciplining players or anyone else.  That does not make them unique in pro sports by any means, but that does not excuse it.  Tyreek Hill put a child in the hospital and now makes $30 m and is a superstar.  Ray Lewis is in the hall of fame and he participated in a murder.  Nothing the NFL does is surprising.  It is owned and run by greedy disgusting human beings by and large.

If anyone ever thought that the NFL is about anything but profits they have their heads buried..well..somewhere.

if some twit accused Mahomes of assault don’t think he would be suspended?  No way until he was fully convicted by a jury which wouldn't be allowed

this is nothing more than entertainment-modern gladiators and we all want to see blood-watch hero’s win and fail-and occasionally root for the sword fodder to rise and slaughter their captors.

Aren't these suspension penalties already set--in agreement with the NFLPA?  How much discretion does the league have with meting out punishment?

This is where we yell at the NFL and feel good about ourselves then go right back to supporting them 100% by watching every single game, right? Am I at the right place?

“In addition, the updated policy states that the third-party disciplinary officer who first reviews any potential player conduct violation has the ability and discretion to impose harsher penalties on players for “other types of prohibited conduct.” That includes an indefinite suspension.

The decision to revise the policy did not require any negotiation with the player’s union as the labor deal and the league constitution gives the commissioner the power to define and penalize conduct detrimental to the league.”

I believe there is a 6 game baseline for first time offenders.  However, Goodell can take into account both mitigating and aggravating factors so there appears to be a lot of leeway.

"Sutton was suspended for eight games for violating the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy."

Why don't they just call it like it is...."Sutton was suspended for eight games for violating the NFL’s Felony Policy."

i recall the 6 game minimum.

He got pretrial diversion for misdemeanor charges.   Is this significantly less than recent such suspension cases?

Hypocrisy shines, humans are very good at it…,

Unless there is video evidence like in the Ray Rice case (when the elevator footage came out weeks later though...), I don't like the NFL dishing out suspensions UNTIL the player is proven guilty. Allegations should never be enough.

Classy guy. Hope the crim justice system gets it right, unlike the NFL…per report below, this suspension for domestic assault is less than half of what is usually doled out for gambling! Just sick.

its ok to be outraged this dude gets to play at all again...... adding the mORE tHAN gAMBLInG thing is stupid, and completely unrelated.

32 billion dollar mini companies, under one umbrella. 1 $100 parlay from a guy against his own stats/team goes public, and the financial problems are immeasurable.

-hundreds of millions (maybe billions?) of revenue dollars, gone..... theres no competitor to take over that missing market

-hundred billion dollar tax exempt status goes into spotlight, maybe they lose it, probably not

-could a city of that team be pissed enough to try and break a stadium lease

-who else immediatelky ends sponsorship with the league, or the city of that team

-what potential sponsorships down the road are lost. opportunity cost

ever been at work where somebody makes a $1,000 mistake? boss in a great mood? now imagine 32 billion dollar bosses, and a $10Billion loss (roughly the valuation of most stocks in the top 100 in entire country).

use your brain lol how many billions did rae curruth cost the league?  .000 (00000?) 000-something?

possessing CP (kiddy films) usually carries a sentence of a like 5-25 years...... DWI can be a $1k fine and a firm warning.... and can kill people

Should your 55 year old blue collar, never did a crime, uncle who blew a .09 do a mandatory minimum of 25years, no questions asked? MOST would say no.

Anybody here think CP possession should be a 1k fine, since DWI's can and do kill people?

NO. ITS APPLES AND ORANGES, AND BOTH BRING SEPERATE SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES.

We can condemn 2 things at once, and realize there are varying levels of heinous actions.

Gambling is a serious problem for the league!  2 or 3 uncovered point shavings/thrown games could completely destroy a $156B organization...... we've seen the league survive 2-3 domestic abuses at a time, basically, at any and all given times.  Im sick of hearing about superhuman with create-a-player physiques,  trouncing on their baby mamas, as is everybody else in the country. My true thoughts on what should happen to the player would get me banned from anywhere posted on the internet, as im sure 50% of the other ppl here..... yet i still find it pretty easy to figure out why a player gambling on his sport has huge potential ramifications

It's not a minimum, its a default.  There has been four game suspensions but they are mostly six games with a few more than that.  So eight games is more than normal, certainly not less.
