No way we should be hanging out hopes on a guy who was drafted in the 4th round and waived one year later to one of the worst FG % in NFL history of 20+ attempts in a season, we really are screwed. Prater is an UFA at the end of the season, they would definitely trade him for a pick. They’re currently 2-4. Any current free agent kicker besides McManus is a free agent because they missed big kicks. McManus makes a lot of sense. Already has a great relationship with our holder. blacklabel Posted October 15 Posted October 15 (edited) Did that XP get tipped? I can't recall if it did or not. If not then, yikes. I can understand a kicker shanking one every now and then but he's had like three or four ugly shanks just in the last couple weeks. Don't know what happened with the guy, and I've been someone that's been riding the "he'll be fine" bandwagon but the ways in which he's missing lately have left me thinking that the dude just isn't reliable right now. Saint Doug Posted October 15 Posted October 15 I’m not a Bass apologist, but the Jets kicker wasn’t any better last night. 2 FG balls hitting the posts in a row, versus Bass’s 1 missed FG and 1 missed XP. I think it was very windy. And if it wasn’t, I don’t see the Bills winning that game. We got lucky. PS. I don’t think the Jets made their 1st XP either. Quote
thenorthremembers Posted October 15 Posted October 15 (edited) The only available kicker who is any better than Bass has been over the last two years is Randy Bullock. He is close to 35 years old. They arent releasing Bass because they know if they bring in Riley Patterson or Brandon McManus they are essentially paying Bass 2,340,000 dollars to stay home, then they have to pay the guy they bring in over 500,000 for the rest of the year. With only 4,000,000 in cap space they likely dont want to spend close to 3 million of it on replacing a kicker when the replacement will be a sum zero. It should have been taken care of in the offseason. Beane usually fails fast and makes up for the mistake, he didnt in this instance and they are paying for it dearly. Riley Patterson can’t hit extra points and has a weak leg. McManus is the best option but he’s at 79% the last 2 years in good kicking weather. Chad Ryland when Prater returns? 😐 Who? Oh I am not sure I am into Chad Ryland, we may have to trade for a guy, say Nick Folk... I know this we have to try to improve this position because I dont think he is going to get better. I think this is getting worse. That said, your point is fair, its easy to say get rid of... but then who do you bring in... Beane was in a quandry in pre season he just signed him to a big contract by kicker standards but that was the time to up grade. In the end, you watch kickers against us make 59 yarders to win games seem automatic and you gotta think we have to get better at this position... Quote

Orlando Buffalo Posted October 15 Posted October 15 I was a believer in Bass until last night, that misses XP was so ugly along with the other miss I am at the point we need to try to replace him. It is likely in his head more than anything but he is unlikely to fix that in Buffalo. Quote
