gjv Posted June 22 Posted June 22 I recently read that Andy Reid is seriously considering to have CB Justin Reid handle the kick-off duties for the Chiefs. With the new kick-off format this seems to make sense. I would think that CB's, LB's, TE's, or WR's that can tackle, will now have an another avenue for a roster spot. Quote

Reid is a free safety not a corner. Quote

LeGOATski Posted June 22 Posted June 22 Reid has already subbed in for an injured Butler before, so it's already a skill he has and is a natural line of thinking for Andy. However, I doubt there will be many other examples of this, if any. Bubble players who are struggling to make the team are going to focus on their positional skills. They're not going to focus on kicking the ball. 11 minutes ago, Ridgewaycynic2013 said: 'A new opportunity to make the roster.' * Thread title looks like those clickbait come ons in news articles. 😁 Yeah, at first I thought McD was gonna hold an open tryout. 1 Quote
Goin Breakdown Posted June 22 Posted June 22 I was thinking this would be a new position like Loose End or Narrow Receiver. 4 Quote

Reid talked about it in this interview. 14 min mark a lot of Bills talk. He was very complimentary of Allen and Kincaid. Kickoff stuffs starts @ 15:50 mark. Seems like it’s really what they’re planning on doing. Kinda nuts. Quote

I have heard others discuss using position players to kick off. It makes a lot of sense. No need to endanger your place kicker if a DB, LB, WR or other position player can reliably kick the ball from the 35 to between the opposite 20 and goal line. Hang time is no longer a factor so that’s a help. It is a good, new avenue for a player to make a living as a special teams player. Quote

This has been talked about already on WGR. Sal believes that teams will use a “kick off specialist” or punter to handle the new kick offs. He even thought that one point that the Bills could keep Jack Browning on the roster for kickoffs and Bass for FG’s. I don’t think this happens though. He also believes teams are going to elect to use more defensive players on kickoffs that can run, get off blocks, and tackle like LB’s and Safeties and less offensive players like WR’s. Quote

Prospector Posted June 24 Posted June 24 I heard about THOTs having a roster in case their main stumbles… is this something like that? Quote

I don't think position matters as much on kickoffs - but taking your kicker off gives you an 11th football player which i think can help tremendously. Quote

Any fridge DB should practice kicking into the drop zone. It could earn them a spot on the 53 Quote

It might be advantageous to have line drive kicks into the landing zone that bounce into the endzone. No return likely and ball placed on the 20. 1 Quote
