Jon in Pasadena Posted June 20, 2024 Posted June 20, 2024 Just saw that. His films were a big part of my early adult-hood. 1 Quote
dpberr Posted June 20, 2024 Posted June 20, 2024 Great actor. I always found his bit part in JFK some of his best acting. Quote

Did not matter if times had changed or whatever, he was always finding roles to play. From "M*A*S*H, to "Klute", to "Invasion of the Body Snatchers", to "Ordinary People" to "Disclosure", to "The Hunger Games". 1 Quote

Still remember seeing Kelly’s Heroes at the drive-in in Hamburg with our next door neighbors. That’s the first role I thought of, but there are so many. Positive vibes!!! 5 Quote

Not by taking the roll, but by taking a $40,000 fee rather than a percentage of gross, which would have ended up in the 30-40 million range! RIP, thanks for your contributions to entertainment. 3 Quote
Rico Posted June 20, 2024 Posted June 20, 2024 He was Hawkeye Pierce to me, not the Alan Alda scrub. RIP. 1 1 Quote

It is superb RIP 😔 I'm in the minority when it comes to Backdraft, unimpressed. Ron Howard as a director is more miss than hit. I do get what you mean about Sutherland's small part in that movie. I just loved his performance. It's like picking from a box of really good chocolates. So many options to choose 🙂 Quote
Augie Posted June 20, 2024 Posted June 20, 2024 (edited) It would have been fun to see him play Bill Walton. 😂 EDIT: as a character, or as a Rich Eisen style sporting challenge. . Edited June 20, 2024 by Augie Quote
Wacka Posted June 20, 2024 Posted June 20, 2024 He was supposed to have been in a movie that is currently filming in Buffalo but I think he hurt his foot and had to bow out. Quote
\GoBillsInDallas/ Posted June 21, 2024 Posted June 21, 2024 For Animal House he had a choice of getting paid a lump sum fee or a percentage of the movie. He chose the lump sum fee since he thought the movie was never going to be a hit. He said that he lost out on about $21,000,000 over the years. Quote
davefan66 Posted June 21, 2024 Posted June 21, 2024 (edited) RIP Donald. Animal house, JFK, Italian Job, Space Cowboys, Invasion of the body snatchers were all good. Loved his character in Kelly’s Heroes the best! Edited June 21, 2024 by davefan66 Quote
