I guess the answer hinges on just how "back" Von Miller truly will be this season.

I feel that this trio needs to reach the over for the Bills D to be formidable enough to seriously compete in the postseason. If this trio is underperforming, a move at the trade deadline for a pass rusher(hopefully Khalil Mack) will be a necessity for the playoff push.

I'll go over. I just think people have been ridiculous in their dismissal of Von. I believe he gets 6+ sacks. That leaves 14 for Groot and AJE to cover. If healthy, I think both have proven they're good for at least 6 sacks at this stage themselves.

3 guys that combined for 11.5 sacks last year?

I'm SLAMMING the under on this

I'd put the o/u at 15

They're not hitting 20...

Von- 7

Greg- 6

AJ- 5

....I don't see these guys going above these numbers. Maybe Ed, Smoot & Solomon give us a handful but our sack numbers will be down. Since McDermott became HC, he has yet to suit up an elite pass rusher.

If all three stay healthy I'd go over.  All three won't though so I'll go around 16.  There's a lot of money to be made now and in the future for these three so the motivation will be there.

Von Miller would've easily had at least 14 in 2022 if it wasn't for the Thanksgiving game nightmare so that's technically not correct imo.  He was elite before the Thanksgiving curse.  Still though.  I get your point that McBeane has failed to draft a true difference maker at defensive end up to this point.

It's uncommon for a player of that age to come back from an ACL tear.  That's why he's being dismissed.

You want to take the over. Three guys, who are supposedly our best pass rushers, can't get over 20 combined sacks? 7 sacks a piece? One get 11 and the other two get 5? Whatever it may be, I'm not confident enough to say yes. I'm going with the under.

Not only will they need to stay healthy for them to hit 20 sacks, but so will Jones and Oliver. Interior pressure is going to be critical this season, and clean up sacks will be needed to reach the mark.

I think Groot gets 12 sacks on his own this year. He looks like he’ll have a breakout season . I think Miller gets 8 so that leaves the Screen Pass swatter to get at least 1 sack which I think he does by week 1 so

taking the over Fo Sho.

I like calculated, long shot bets.

I would bet, given huge odds, that AJ, Groot, and Von all get 10+ sacks each.

Bills got pressure last season, without DaQuan, and having tomato cans backing up

Oliver.  Smoot, Carter, Williams, Johnson are major upgrades on DL.

DaQuan was leading NFL QB pressure rate at time of injury.  Interior pressure destroys plays.  Oliver was playing the majority of snaps.  Now Ed has help on DL.

DL will be more stout against the run too IMO

Over

As in worthy of ridicule?

He’s old, he’s coming off a sometimes career ending injury and often career diminishing injury. The odds are decidedly against him regaining anything near his former ability.

The last two seasons AJE got 6.5 sacks per, with snap counts of 36%.  I'd expect him to get a little over 50% of the snap counts this year, which would equate to 9-10 sacks.  Groot and Miller will easily combine for more than 10.  Of course, the assumption is all stay healthy.

I could see Groot getting close to 10 sacks being his 4th year. AJE & Miller just aren’t combining for 10. AJE might get 6 or 7, but Miller is washed. I’m not saying we cant get the sacks from elsewhere, but not from Von, he’ll be a healthy scratch most games.

We played terrible o-lines the first four games of last season

Under

My bold prediction: Epenesa has the most sacks with 7. Groot with 6 and Miller with 1 1/2.

I can’t decide if we should make this a mostly Bash McD thread ( under the auspices of he was the one directing the acquisition of all these Just above JAG defenders) or if it’s a 50/50 McBeane hatred thread.

   I love these stealth threads😎

The Bills did well to manufacture sacks with their scheme last season. Props to McDermott for that. But to beat the best teams with the best quarterbacks a team needs to be able to get pressure with their front four. The Bills will need to add at least one quality pass rushing DE to do that.
