People be like "don't wave your gayness in my face, keep it to your community" and "trans shouldn't compete in sports with non trans people"

*Flag football league starts where they keep to themselves*

"What's up with this exclusion?!"

Honestly, I think it's sad. If people just treated everyone as people regardless of their orientation - maybe they wouldn't have to create a league amongst themselves to feel comfortable and welcome among all.

I suggest you walk into any school k-12 and tell me you don't see it being displayed prominently.

I don't know what you mean by prominent. There are a lot of groups and clubs that prominently advertise themselves in public schools. I really think it is just confirmation bias on your part. You think LGBT stuff is getting pushed in your face, therefore every time you see it it's another example. You have the cause/effect backwards. The things in American culture that are truly pushed in your face are so aggressive and constant that they have become the background noise of your life.

Somewhat of a tangent here - If you want to know why subjects like LGBT, guns, abortion, etc. seem to be prevalent in the media, it's because the algorithms that now run every major media outlet in this country have quickly discovered that they're an easy way to get clicks. I'm well aware that hot button issues have become a commodity in the modern American culture, but you can actively choose not to engage with it if you want to. The more you engage, the more content you'll see. Confirmation bias is a booming business, it's been technologically perfected in fact, and the secret is that negative engagement is even more profitable than positive engagement.

In your opinion 🤘

I mean it is literally one news article on the Bills website announcing a link up trying to drum up awareness for potential players and sponsors. They are not saying "oh and boyst must come and watch while wearing a pride flag and a feather boa" or "you won't be allowed into a Bills game next year without proof you participated in a gay flag football game."

It is one post on a website. If that is too "in your face" that's a you problem.

maybe they wouldn't have to create a league amongst themselves to feel safe.

Are these the real reasons this league was created? Honest question.

Because as far as I know, LGBTQ people have been able to play flag football without issue.

You need to look no further than some of the posts in this thread to see why they may have been made to feel uncomfortable and unwelcome.

Again, see my earlier post. LGBT sports leagues or teams are crested because even though gay people can just walk up and join any existing team or league in practice they often do not feel comfortable doing so. So yes, those are the "real reasons" that such leagues are created.

If something makes somebody else happy, and it’s not hurting anyone in any way, why the hell should I care?

My biggest problem with this league is what is preventing straight guys from pretending to be gay and joining up? Is there some kind of physical proof required?? Do we really want our gay children sharing locker rooms and showering with these weirdos?!? Seems like theres a lot yet to figure out.

There is proof. Showering with team.mates is required after practice.

Would you like to join us?

It's being so normalized and accepted throughout lower level sports (and high level womens sports) that it's just kind of hard to believe it was needed in something like flag football.

Maybe it's just the football crowd, but especially the mens leagues, where it's a bigger hurdle.

Women's leagues, like the WNBA I mentioned before, are very welcoming and upfront about it.

It really isn't though. Fast food commercials are constantly in my face. Beer commercials. Gambling commercials. The gay pride stuff is a tiny tiny percentage of the content that I come across, yet it gets by far some of the highest engagement. If you feel that it is being shoved in your face, I would say you're probably the one shoving it there yourself. The rest of us just keep on scrolling and it doesn't bother me a tick.

Good point.  Two men who love each other don’t bother me.  But I’m tired of hearing about gambling, and booze,  and Viagra, and vaping, and McSlob sandwiches,  and Doritos, and giant pickup trucks for dudes who have never done a day of manual labor.   “Gay” is

pushed so much less than that other nonsense. If anyone has a problem with it, that’s in them.

I would hope it's sarcasm. Sadly, it's really hard to tell with some of the posters around here.

Juaronimo may have some loose wires, but they're not the kind that burn down the house.

They just sort of make you sniff around like you're worried  there might be a smoldering short up there somewhere.
