Bass struggling at minicamp (and now at training camp)

I agree. However, we need to see how he is kicking in actual games. Kicking is all mental, so he has to prove that he is capable when the bullets are flying.

Bates is now the starting kicker in Detroit after the incumbent got injured a few days ago.

Be careful what you wish for. Bates started out strong but, per the Detroit media out here, has hit a "brick wall" and is struggling big time. Kickers &%#^*!

The 58 yard miss was a horrible shank.

Had he kicked it straight and true and it fell short of the goal posts I would feel much better.

You never know when the shanks are going to come back !

Sometimes the worst looking kicks come from longer distances because the kicker tries to get too much leg into it and loses his mechanics.

You mean like me with a driver trying to clear the big lake? Sometimes I don’t even get TO the water jumping out of my shoes trying to crush it!  😂

That must be why my brother always ordered his boilermakers with two shots instead of one. 🤔

Mmmmmmm…. Boilermakers…

Bass has been the better kicker in 2 of 9 playoff games. (Indy Jan 21 & KC Jan 22). He’s been out kicked 4 times (KC Jan 21, NWE Jan 22, PIT Jan 24, KC Jan 24). Fl

For his playoff career Bass is (26/29 on extra points) and (12/17 on field goals). That’s 62 points on 80 attempted.

Bills opponents are (22/23 on extra points) and (15/19 on field goals).  That’s 67 points on 80 attempted.

So in the grand scheme Bass is 5 points behind opponent kickers. Might not sound like much but Bills fans know the kicking game can make all the difference.

With all respect, he is not “struggling” , last practice he was six of seven, and has next to identical results for the previous camp practices, this is a “Jump the shark“ head line, much ado about nothing, lots of folk need to get their Lexapro script refilled, 😁👍

If Tyler Bass went 6-7, long of 51 and a miss from 58 in a game, he’d be AFC SPT Player of the Week

He was also terrible in the UFL from percentage wise and missed enough that he was worse than Bass anyway.

He is not an NFL level kicker and most likely will be worse than Bass in the NFL.

We can count kicks, misses and makes, etc.   I won’t be back on the Bass wagon until he hits a couple of winners from a distance.  In short, stats are great and translate to points and wins.   Does anyone wanna see him line up from 48 yards out with a few seconds left in a playoff game?

The problem with his off years is that our confidence is a few big game kicks, and probably a few years, away.

Yeah but he made 50+ yarders with ease.  Maybe a specialist-specialist role for him?

Context matters. If that 58 yarder was a game-winner that he missed .. then he isn’t winning the award. And he would be rightfully panned on this forum.

Remember when the Eagles kicker hit that 60 yarder against us, in the rain, to force OT and the eventual win?

I do.

Kickers need to be able to hit those. But the last time we saw bass, he badly shanked the game-tying FG against KC and sent us packing from the playoffs. Next time he had an opportunity to make a practice-winning field goal, he sent it so far left that i’m not sure the goal posts even knew a kick was happening.

That is not encouraging news.

So fans can gloat about the three or four he made from shorter distances when it didn’t matter. But until he starts making them when it does matter, with the game or practice on the line, there will be justifiable question marks.

@Einstein, if context mattered this thread wouldn’t exist lol

It’s already been proven that any struggles Bass has had this summer have been exaggerated or flat out lied about.

Tyler Bass has a proven record of being good when the kicks matter, outside the end of last year, and we have context as to what may have played a role. It was very uncharacteristic of the artist formerly known as Bass Money, after starting the season 9-9. That KC kick was also the first game winner he missed in his career.

Perhaps he had some personal life stuff that rocked him to his core? The coaches also clearly are not worried.

Brownie said the other day that he was 6 for 6, and that they would have been good from 60+.  The Bass-o-Matic hate is strong at TBD.
