This may be the biggest upset in NCAA wrestling history. One of the top of all NCAA sports or American sports in general. Not even close to joking. Gable Stevenson is a bonafide top 10 wrestler of all time. He just won a gold medal. He was at his peak. He got beat by a lesser man. This and Dan Gables loss Larry Owing...HUGE.

"Lesser man"?  I hope that was just a poor choice of words.  "Underdog" or even "relative unknown" is more accurate.  Hendrickson's is a great story (and is a solid human being) in his own right.

So wait - he was on the bills, then went back to college?? How is that possible?

Been that way for a while.  If you sign a pro contract, you lose your eligibility in that sport, but can compete in other sports.  Now with NIL, the entire line between pro and college athletics at the highest level is VERY blurry.

In addition it may get even blurrier because of this lawsuit - There is a new case filed against the NCAA on behalf of several college hockey programs and players in the Canadian Hockey League (three Major Junior leagues the NCAA considers professional). If the NCAA loses this lawsuit, collegiate sports at the Division I level will be fully professional with almost no restrictions.

He got to go back to school because he had both a COVID year and an Olympic Red Shirt year.   That said, he was also in the WWE on top of being with the Bills.   I'd say thats a bad look but the guy has accomplished more in 24 years than I will in my entire life.       The way college athletics is setup these days is not uncommon to see 24 years olds compete.  Hendrickson, the wrestler from Ok State who just beat him is 24 as well.

There is also legal battles happening with NIL in High School, as many stars allow it. The ramifications that high schools become professional paid athletes will change the entrance path for college athletes.

If you have a family, children, love, good ethics and values you are no worse off than any man.

I was saying a guy from Okst. Best him.  As for as the other, I don't think it matters as he was trying football, and went back to wrestling.

Doesn’t make sense. All NCAA athletes that try the NFL and majority don’t make it cant return back to the NCAA. Probably made a special rule for this guy.
