Don't wait - a 1st and 4th for Metcalf.  Bring in his $13M salary and immediately restructure to a $6M cap hit.  Leaves about $7M for the season.

Bring back Hyde in a low cost vet/coach role to bring our new safeties up to speed.

Back to contender status!

If we can do it…we should.

The front office is going to sit on it until a midseason injury forces them to fill the need. Might be a smaller under the radar signing in the short term but there won't be a big ticket signing. Not even close. JMO, of course.

All this talk about Hamlin is crazy....he showed to be a decent backup safety, safety4 type, 2 seasons ago.  LY is a wash, he's already showing up early in camp making plays and faster than LY.  He'll have a spot on the 53.

Back to the $$$s, it's pretty easy to envision us holding onto what's left after draft class/practice squad/contingencies.  Either it gets rolled to next year, or we see who is cut/potential trade mid year.

No need to rush spending that $$$ now, we might have the best depth that we've had in a while (minus boundary CB and potentially DE).  Rest of the team, on paper, looks fairly set.

You're right, no rush to spend the little Beane has left.

All rookies are signed except Coleman who will cost about $1.1M off the top 51.

That leaves Beane with about $8.3M.   Minus $4M for PS and the rest for the 53 plus any IR players to start the season.

It really doesn't leave much left.

The Bills usually like to reserve about 3 million for in season emergencies and 4 million is reserved for the PS. So that's functionally leaving the Bills with about 1.3 million in actual space. Now the Bills if some "too good to be true" trade were to come up the Bills do have some options to open up more cap space than the 1.3 million they currently will have to actually "play with". The Bills can convert the rest of Josh's salary to a bonus and open up 6 million more in space. I think they can also gain 1-2 million by doing the same with Ed Oliver. So if there's a will there's a way but I think the Bills likely will just wait until the trade deadline to make any moves where what little money they have and can open up will go farther.

Yep, Beane is always looking.  If something looks too good to pass on, he can make the moves you mentioned.

  1. Douglas extension - probably 2 years, maybe 3
  2. Reserved amount for Hyde or another S if Hyde doesn't come back
  3. Potential CB signing as we are pretty thin
  4. $3m-$4m held in reserve heading into the season

Take one of the available CB’s off the list.

This is so messed up that I’m hesitant to even share it.

Someone call Andy Reid. His type of character player.
