Daniels has looked pretty good so far. He isn't making really stupid mistakes throwing the ball. He has shown good escapability the past couple weeks and hit some big throws when needed against the Giants to get the win. And he seemed to learn to avoid big hits the second half of the last game. I'm seeing some growth. 

 

Washingtons line is weak and they have one legitimate receiver in McLaurin. Williams has a much better receiving core and is making the stupid mistakes Daniels isn't. His line also sucks but Daniels is escaping the rush better and making better throws to win games.

The Bears OL is absolute garbage.  Just look at them, especially vs. the Texans.  Compare CWs stats when the defense blitzes vs. non blitz downs.  Telling...

  Looking like this thread is picking up steam again after he looked awful against he Texans and Titans.
  When I watched Caleb play in college he made some wow what a throws but when I watched him play the Notre Dames and Utahs he just didn’t look like the same player with this kinda hype. 
  USC has a tradition of having overhyped QBs other then maybe Carson Palmer pre injury none of them have really lived up to the hype the last 20-30 years.

I still stand by they should have kept Fields traded down a couple spots and taken either MHJ or Nabers. They probably would have received another first next year.

Or they should have taken Williams #1 and then a left tackle instead of trotting Braxton Jones out there again to lock down your rookie's blindside and convincing yourself that is a sensible strategy. 

 

Wide receiver was a luxury pick IMO. That team needed and I mean needed a left tackle. DJ Moore and Keenan Allen for a year woulda been fine at receiver. Their offensive line is trash.

People are always talking about getting weapons for a young QB but to me getting a decent oline and a reliable safety option is much more important.  A really bad oline could ruin a young QB for their whole career (see David Carr).

 

Having good olines was a huge advantage for Mahomes and Lamar Jackson when they came into the league.   Obviously Jamarr Chase is a excellent WR but if the Bengals had picked Penei Sewell like most expected, maybe Joe Burrow could play more than half the games.  Beane thought he had a decent oline for whoever he was going to draft in 2018 but Eric Wood suddenly had to retire, Richie Incognito did what he did, and the Bills finished much better than he expected so he had to trade Cordy Glenn to move up to pick Allen.

I STILL say the Benglas should have drafted Sewell. Bill Belichick called him "the best tackle in football" last week. I struggle a tad getting there while he is still playing on the right side but there is no doubt that when Decker ages out the Lions will flip him to the blindside. He is an absolute stud. The best tackle to come into the league at least since Trent Williams (and I think as a prospect Sewell was probably even better). 

 

Chase is a stud too, it's hard to argue that was anything other than a home run pick, but I agree with you their overall win % might be higher had Burrow not missed a third of two of his four seasons and been nicked up at various other times as well.

Love the wild assumptions after two games of a 21 year old playing the hardest job in sports for one of the worst franchises for a qb. 
 

I think he’s going to be a star and even though it wasn’t great in Houston, he hung in there against a brutal pass rush from a really good defense.

It’s a fair point. But I think teams think it’s harder to find an elite Wr than a OT. Also, a great wr can help with pass blocking because teams aren’t as quick to blitz or send as many pass rushers. Plus, the chemistry Chase and Burrow had.

Yea I get that the Burrow - Chase LSU connection was probably a factor there that tipped the balance some. I disagree that it is harder to find elite WRs than elite OTs though. And I also think an elite OT matters more to a traditional pocket passer like Burrow than to aliens like Allen, Mahomes, even Herbert for example. 

 

Again I am not saying they got it wrong with Chase. But I'd have picked Sewell on the day and I'd still pick Sewell if you gave me a do-over right now. They were probably in a can't lose position either way with two elite talents but every year Burrow has been there they have been trying to "fix" the oline. I'd have done that personally.
