Tua holding out?

Last year was the first season Allen has had a good oline, he’s thrived with mediocre oline play. There would be no need for excuses if Allen had a hobbled Hill and Waddle because Allen can make plays on his own, that’s why paying Tua 50+ per is going to be a day to celebrate on this board.

Obviously the Dolphins are also uncertain about Tua, otherwise they would have already signed him to the new contract he wanted.  However, it is unfair to just ignore the injuries the Dolphins offense was dealing with at the end of last season.

Yes, Allen can make the off-platform play that Tua can't dream of doing but there is no need to denigrate Allen's teammates to make that point.  Allen's oline was pretty decent in 2020 also.

The 2020 oline ranked 10th by PFF, slightly above average oline. I’m not ignoring the Dolphins injuries, It’s actually the opposite because in the NFL everybody deals with injuries and had Tua shown an ability raise his game in the face of adversity, he’d already have been paid like you suggested.

 I’m hoping he’s the NFLs highest paid QB before the season starts.

I'm not scared of Tua, but he is good. Not great, but good. I'd rather the Dolphins not sign him and then see them struggle to find another QB for a few years. Even if they find another good QB, it will take 2 or 3 years for him to develop, and then there is no guarantee he is better than Tua. Chances are he'll be worse.

So, I'd rather see a QB carousel in Miami, honestly. Finding an elite QB is extremely hard to do. That's why they have to pay Tua, because even though he isn't elite, he is good, and the alternative is far too risky.

Paying a good not great qb the amount of money he’s looking for is kind of the kiss of death though in the medium/long term.  Short term though yea it helps if he stays

Hey he is trying to cash in like all other QB's have in the last couple of years.  QB contracts have be crazy money the last two years alone.

Some of these QB's got paid a lot of money and didn't do squat after getting paid.

Definitely can't fault a guy that wants to get paid.  Who doesn't want

Mo' Money   Mo' Money   Mo' Money.......

Jared Goff and Trevor Lawrence aren't in the Jared Goff and Trevor Lawrence ballpark.

I don't know who is in the tougher spot Dallas or Miami.  They have offenses that are ready to go with the qb's but the qb's because of the market are going to be paid way more than they are worth yet the team will not win in the short term without them.

These guys are going to get like 60 a year.

1- I look at the dolphins as the cowboys of the AFC

2- I hope Dak and Tua both get to reset the QB market as a Bills fan it’s a win win for me

3- GO BILLS

They are going to have to pay the injury/concussion-prone Tua the going rate of Trevor Lawrence/Jared Goff.  Now if he wants even more (which I hope to hell he does) then they are really in a tough situation.

Dolphins have the 5th year option and they can franchise him next year and the year after ,if I’m not mistaken  just like Washington did with cousins

Those are terrible options imo, why Kirk Cousins has been so overpaid and the same thing going to happen to Dak Prescott.

It’s a tough spot to be in. Tua is clearly a starting QB in the league. You don’t lead the league in passing  yards if you can’t play at this level. But is he championship QB? I don’t think so. He has folded late in the year multiple times. Is he worth 60 million? I don’t think so

I also think it’s possible, McDaniel could get good production out of a lot of QBs with his system. If Penix had gotten to Miami, I think they would have drafted him

The way i see it is like this......the QB tier

* 1st tier......Mahomo, JA, Burrows, LJ

* 2nd tier......Cousins, present day Rodgers, Purdy, Stroud, etc.

* 3rd tier......Lawerence, Tua, Prescott, etc.

* 4th tier........everyone else

If Miami wants to pay a 3rd tier QB as a 1st tier kind of money, have at it......it's good news for Bills fans and bad news for the Fins when they cripple their franchise.

I agree with your rankings overall, present day Rodgers is a massive ?.  I have never been sold on Lawrence.  It has been one year but I think CJ Stroud is the real deal, not thrilled about some of his recent comments but the media need clicks, seems like a quality guy.  The Texans will be a team for the Bills to compete for in the next few years seriously.

“……that is the market value.”

Well, it seems that is what the market will determine.  Pretty simple.

Agree with most of your rankings but I would quibble about having LJ in tier 1; to me he’s borderline 1, but leader of the 2nd tier; also, I’d have Prescott in tier 2 not 3–and at this point in their careers, I’d take Dak over Rodgers if I was forced to pick. But all in all I agree with your sentiments.

For what it's worth, this sounds like the kind of story where an agent leaks a detail to a friendly reporter to try to move the needle in negotiations
