They are, it will be tough sledding to field a full football team with 2 well paid WR and a QB. But the struggle isn't necessarily the extension date ir AAV, it is the cap hit for the league year. EDIT: Borrow contract is just begging to come due. Allen's is all but here to stay now. $30M receivers are a giant deal at that point. Edited May 6 by Mango Quote

He will want over $30M AAV. Higgins is an UFA next year. They used the tag because they WILL NOT have both next season on the team. Higgins will want over $20M AAV. They got a lot of cap space next year, but they are not signing both to high dollar long term contracts. Not with that owner and not with Burrows contract kicking in. It's all-in for them this year and the owner still has $23M in cap space! 2 Quote

Chase (2021) and burrow (2020) still on rookie contracts. Higgins (2020) being a 2nd round pick only had 4 yrs this franchise tag this year. Next year Burrow gets the high QB cap hit, 2036 is ehrn thry have to decide between Higgins and chase on top receiver ( assuming higgins is franchised again in 2025) Quote
Big Blitz Posted May 7 Author Posted May 7 Because they’re preparing to pay JJ and they need to see if JJ can play with other JJ who will essentially have a 5 year rookie deal. Cousins and Jefferson would count as probably 60-80 million against the cap in 2025. Why Kirk Cousins moved on from Vikings before being blindsided by Falcons “….Minnesota played stingy with guaranteed money with the 35-year-old’s contract, reportedly being unwilling to guarantee the second year of a deal. Cousins figured that, if he stayed, there was a good shot that he’d be on the move in 2025,” Sports Illustrated reported...” https://nypost.com/2024/05/06/sports/why-kirk-cousins-moved-on-from-vikings-before-falcons-stunner/?utm_campaign=iphone_nyp&utm_source=pasteboard_app Quote
Dr.Sack Posted May 7 Posted May 7 Burrow and Chase getting paid soon. Cincy is cheap so maybe one has to go. Quote

I don’t know how there are still Diggs apologists left. In the playoff game against the Chiefs, Diggs had 3 receptions on 8 targets, for 21 yards. When targeting Diggs, Allen averaged 2.6 yards per attempt. Allen's career average is 7.2 yards per attempt. Now look at the Bills in 2018. They had their worst opening day QB starter (Nate Peterman) in a very long time. Kelvin Benjamin and Andre Holmes may have been the worst starting pair of WRs in this team's history. Arguably the worst OL in the team's history. Nate Peterman averaged 3.6 yards per attempt in 2018. What Diggs did against the Chiefs in the playoffs was even worse than the Nate Peterman offensive disaster in 2018. Let that sink in. It's not like that game was a one time thing. Diggs had a habit of not showing up in playoff games against the Chiefs. When the Bills approached him about taking a pay cut, he said he wasn't interested. At that point, the numbers made the decision very easy. Not every highly paid receiver is Stephon Diggs. Some other highly paid WRs actually produce in the playoffs. Think about the Arizona Cardinals, back when they had Kurt Warner as their QB. Not much about that team was special, except their QB, and their WR corps (Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin). Their QB + receivers were good enough to get them to the Super Bowl, and almost good enough for them to win it. It absolutely can make sense to pay big bucks to a WR, assuming you're paying the right guy. Edited May 7 by Rampant Buffalo 1 Quote

More concerned with who is going to return kicks and punts, not sure that specialist is on the roster and I dont think they trust a rook to do that. Ty Johnson on KOs Shakir on punts.... Quote
HomeskillitMoorman Posted May 7 Posted May 7 The issue for me isn't that we don't have an elite WR, it's that we really haven't had either overall quantity or quality. If you're talking about resources...a lot have been poured into McD's defense that gets torched in the playoffs EVERY single year. That's where our problem lies. We are so far from the problem being too many resources being used for the offensive side of the ball. Quote
Billl Posted May 7 Posted May 7 The entire premise and surrounding discussion of this thread is completely off base. There is no such thing as overpaying a player who produces superstar level production, and there is no problem that can’t be solved by drafting well. Every April provides a confessional for NFL GMs. There is no sin that cannot be atoned for. If you want to win in January, you have to win in April. Quote
ngbills Posted May 8 Posted May 8 All depends what your paying other places. You can do it if you’re not paying for a CB, DT, DE. Chiefs are paying Mahomes and a few other guys. Bolls could if they were did not have the miller and white contracts. Shows why drafting is important though so guys rolling off can be replaced cheaper. Quote
SoCal Deek Posted May 8 Posted May 8 This entire discussion is chicken and egg. Players don’t come out of the womb as highly paid professionals. They don’t even come out of the draft that way. (The current CBA makes sure of that.) Instead players earn their status after five years of consistent production. So are there times when a random highly paid QB and WR are on the same team? Maybe. Maybe not. But the connection is not so much by design or intent. Quote
