Fall from Grace: Olympian Suspended for Making Sign of the Cross Jonathan Turley International Judo Federation (IJF) has suspended a Serbian judo champion for five months from any international competitions for making the sign of the cross after his match in the Paris Olympic games this year. It is another bizarre controversy from the games, including France barring French Muslim athletes from wearing hijabs in competition. Nemanja Majdov, 28, has been told that he was found guilty of “having shown a clear religious sign when entering the field of play.” Sometimes we Americans get jaded at displays of faith in sporting events.
