BuffaloBillyG Posted March 26 Posted March 26 I know some will hate it because "change bad" but I'm interested to see how this plays out. I like the idea of keeping returns relevant. Of course this would hit at a time where Buffalo doesn't have a clear "return specialist" rostered ..but let's see what the draft brings. 3 3 Quote

beebe Posted March 26 Posted March 26 (edited) there was one kickoff return TD the entire XFL season and i believe it was in the very first game. Edited March 26 by beebe 1 Quote

LOL I guess this goes in the category of, "better than nothing." Personally, I miss the original kickoff, especially when you had a return man who could always bust one, but that's life. 1 1 Quote
PetermansRedemption Posted March 26 Posted March 26 It was either this or completely eliminate the kick off. I’m not sure which I prefer, but I’m willing to give this one a try. How do the players know the kickoff returner has touched the ball? Surely they don’t turn around to watch. Do the officials blow a whistle to indicate it? 2 Quote
HappyDays Posted March 26 Posted March 26 The only thing I hate about this is the NFL keeps bouncing back and forth between special teams barely mattering at all and special teams suddenly being very important. It's hard to construct a roster when you don't even know what will be important on a year to year basis. 3 3 1 Quote
warrior9 Posted March 26 Posted March 26 I really dislike that they passed this without trying it for a year in the pre-season first, like have done with MANY other rules. If players, coaches, fans, etc hate it... why keep it? We may all love it but at the end, all of the rule changes coming are harming the game. 1 Quote
hondo in seattle Posted March 26 Posted March 26 I'm a traditionalist. I don't like rule changes. Except when they promote player safety like this one (hopefully) does. Quote

Brand J Posted March 26 Posted March 26 (edited) Good, it needed to be changed because it was essentially a “dead play” as McD described. Adios to surprise onside kickoffs, the only onside attempts that actually had a chance. I’d like to see that play modified too, they have something like a 3% success rate. They will review next off season if they will make it permanent. I personally think that's smarter as it gives them an entire season of actual gameplay to review things such as the overall impact on injuries, amount of returns ect rather than a 3 week window where a lot of guys are playing out of position and gives a minimal scope as to impact. 3 Quote
Bruffalo Posted March 26 Posted March 26 I don't think this is going to fix much, and it's ultimately going to end up a "dead play" with teams opting to just put the ball on the 30 instead of risking a big play since returners are going to be much more talented then the caliber you see in the XFL (which seems like they get to the 30 most of the time anyways).
