That’s exactly what he is.  He wasn’t particularly good when he had to start, but he wasn’t a liability and that’s all you can ask from a backup.  I would be pretty surprised if both he and Rapp were first string next year.  They’re both the type of player who you can get by with if the rest of the defensive backfield is solid, but neither are really plus players.  Good signing assuming he’s in the $2 million range for sure.

Reminds me of what people said when Poyer signed here …

Interesting…The Chiefs paid him $3m last year … did they overpay him?

I don’t think they were complaining when the SB came around…

Was Hamlin not inactive for most of the season while Lewis was? Did the Bills not just give Lewis a new 2 year deal. I'd say hes more in their future plans than Hamlin.

Lewis is a nickel corner and a special teams player. They gave him a 2 year deal to continue his role as Taron Johnson's backup.

Hamlin is a safety. And not sure if you heard but he died on the field less than a year prior to most of the 2023 season, which is why he was inactive for most of the season. I expect him to be back to his old self in 2024.

His old self wasn’t good. He’s a worse version of Rapp imo and I’m not a big Rapp fan. More of a country guy 😆

He’s your classic pretty good player that pff inexplicably hates 😂

Well dang it. If PFF hates him then we just may have found something 😂

Completely fine with whatever this staff does at Safety.

….as long as it’s not in the first round.

Seems to me that we have two guys who start if needed, but can also be the third Safety for the other and another FA signing or draft pick.

in the most recent super bowl

he played 73 of 75 defensive snaps

Yea I'm not getting the hate over this at all.

The FS for a top 3 D in the league.

That's won 2 SBs.  That will work.

7 tackles and a PD in last year’s Super Bowl.  Wait til he works with the DB whisperer.

He needs to do more whisper Rapp, Hamlin and Edward’s.

smh okay boss whatever you say. He was more than healthy enough to play last year he was cleared by multiple specialists to continue playing. Lewis is going into safety before Hamlin

BS.  Edmunds is still 15 yrs old.

Taron is only 27.  It seems like Taron has been playing nickel corner for a decade

A bit short for a safety, but not alarmingly so.  Otherwise, his measurables are decent (athleticism and body mass).  I'd be more comfortable with Edwards starting than Hamlin.  Still room for an upgrade.

This thread proves that most of us can be talked into liking just about any signing.  Pretty much everyone would have preferred Blackmon before this signing, and some still do, but it is only a matter of time until we are enamored by his 2 SB rings, impressive stat line despite only 28 career starts and the fact that he “would have” been a starter had he been on a different team, he’s cheaper for the Bills  (oh and he hasn’t torn an ACL / Achilles yet either) ….. and therefore he’s a better signing than Blackmon.  Just wait.

Has anyone said that?  Most outright state "I would have preferred Blackmon..."

We definitely weren’t complaining.  $3 million was a good deal.  Given the state of the FA Safety market right now, I’m guessing Buffalo got him for that or less which is a solid deal.  If you’re expecting a high end backup or lower end but serviceable starter, you’re going to be happy.  If you’re expecting him to be peak Jordan Poyer they you’re going to be disappointed.

Edmunds is getting younger.

They’re similar as both can be versatile. Former CBs, McDermott likes former CBs at safety.

Blackmon has more of that dog in him IMO. Leader type. That’s what I wanted here.
