The Frankish Reich Posted 21 hours ago Author Posted 21 hours ago Here comes the Trump Administration see-saw effect again. Paul Krugman on how - even if not intentional - it gives a huge advantage to the economic oligarchs: The content of his remarks aside, what was Bessent even doing at this event? Senior government officials aren’t supposed to be helping investment banks entertain their clients. First — and why aren’t more people saying this? — what the hell was the Treasury secretary doing giving a closed-door briefing on a significant policy change that hadn’t yet been officially announced? Isn’t that a setup for large-scale insider trading? Indeed, attendees at that conference surely made market bets before Bessent’s remarks became public. And since when are major policy announcements by government officials made off the record to closed private-sector meetings? One even wonders whether Bessent was announcing policy or making it: Did Trump back him up only after the fact? Bessent's remarks were kinda sorta private and kinda sorta public. But his suggestion that the China tariffs were unsustainable again moved markets, and the JP Morgan Chase folks who invited him got that info at least a minute or two ahead of anyone else. Do you think they traded on it? If you don't think that, as the old timers used to say, I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you. 2

The entire argument is to shift the playing field to the uneducated, underqualified, generally lower academically performing population in the US. They're Americas new socialist party. The dumb, white, disenfranchised. At its core, this has always been a class war. Both sides need to understand that a strong middle class is and has been the key to our success. But times change. We can't compete making TVs, sneakers and iPhones. Our lane is innovation. Go after the Chinese on patents and intellectual property. Don't go after Harvard and the others who produce the innovations.. And don't believe a conman who cares as much for the working man as snakes do.

I think both parties are in bed with the wrong people. Our process for funding elections basically guarantees that to be the case. Politicians are indebted to the corporations that got them elected. Neither have represented most of us for a very long time. I wish THAT is something all of us could get together on. Instead we are fragmented on largely social issues. 1

Not to say D's don't take corporate money that buys influence but they generally support reform. citizens united was decided in favor of corporation by a conservative SCOTUS including Roberts and Scalia. It's telling the McConnell cheered the decision and Obama hated it. With the current SCOTUS, things are not going to change. And the maga's keep voting in candidates who oppose election reform. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citizens_United_v._FEC As far as the 1%, much the same is true. D's generally want them taxed more, R's less. If the maga's are angry at them, they aren't voting that way.

I worked from nothing to get where I'm at. So I don't feel that way at all, but I never cried about how the game was rigged hoping the rules would change. You know the rules. If you don't get your degree you're looking at about a sub 5% chance of ever clearing six figures. Maybe less than that. If you want to go into the trade? You know what the average pay is, not good. You know what your job stability looks like, not good either. We are responsible for the path we take and the outcomes of that path. So tell me why our society should change the rules, have everybody else who played by them pay more, for those that failed the game? 2
