Why do you support policies that actively hurt consumers?

I was watching CNBC this morning, and these people know this tariff thing is just bonkers, but they sat there crying about how Trump's isn't arguing about how well he supposedly did last time, not even touching on this tariff nonsense. Totally papering over his childish arguments. These are supposed to be people that know economics and markets yet they totally gloss over Trump's extreme ignorance, his bankruptcies and budget busting policies, while complaining Harris's policies are crazy.

Trump gets a lot of help in the media

They just keep getting more and more hysterical.

I am worried that they won't make it another 6 weeks.

At least you’re worried about something other than the next cartoon for a change.

If the media actually tried to go after some of these MAGA scumbags, they wouldn’t be able to show their faces in society. But Trump drives hate clicks which drives ad revenue soooo

The hoax is the illusion that Harris has been transformed from a total moron into some shining orator and leader. That's the crock of schitt here.

I know it you know it too. But you'll never say it.

She is a lot smarter than Trump, which isn't saying much.

Trump is a complete idiot, but so are most of his supporters, so they don't know the difference

100% tariff on all auto imports!

Last year, 59% of U.S. car sales were imported from abroad.

How would you like to pay a cool $50,000 more on a new Audi? OK, so maybe just Mexican imports? Oh, let's just violate the US-CAN-MEX (new NAFTA treaty) and start a nice little trade war.

That's the big beautiful future Trump wants for you and me.

Oh, but that wouldn't cause U.S.-produced auto prices to go up, you say?

Well, then you failed Economics.

Meanwhile, Trump is starting to think about his new administration. He doesn't like Jerome Powell at the Fed anymore (he appointed him, but of course, that's Trump for you). He kind of likes Arthur Laffer of Reagan "Laffer Curve" supply side fame and pseudo-economist Stephen Moore of former Wall Street Journal editorial fame.

Let's see what they have to say about tariffs, shall we?

https://www.wsj.com/economy/trump-economic-advisers-float-three-names-for-fed-chair-e3b694d8?mod=hp_lead_pos2

Moore and Laffer co-founded a group called the Committee to Unleash Prosperity along with Steve Forbes, the chairman of Forbes Media. The group advocates for a stable dollar, low taxes, low or no tariffs, limited spending and the repeal of many regulations.

Good to see Trump is still a stable genius "effin' moron" as one of his former Cabinet members said.

Tariffs are taxes on the American consumer. He is talking about a ridiculously confiscatory tax on U.S. auto sales that would distort the market and cause a collapse in new auto sales. And meanwhile, he is talking about appointing Reaganites who devoted their careers to advocating against such taxes.

So all you Trumpies tell me: tariffs are good now? It's now o.k. to love those taxes? How high is too high? Why stop at automobiles? Why not ban imports of all consumer goods?

Well here's a thought . Just maybe if all of the career politicians prior to Trump (which you give no blame to it's all Trump all the time) wouldn't have invested in foreign countries & their companies (more likely than not) letting most of American manufacturers leave this country (because they were getting taxed to much here in America possibly) then having other countries produce goods for less than half that they can here due to life styles & wages being controlled by a communist gov''t . And ship them here still for less than producing them here .

If those goods were produced here the GM plants and their laid off workers from the Lockport, Michigan, Nashville, plants would still have jobs injecting their taxes & spending money in the local economy instead of into China's .

But it's okay to over look all of the actions of ALL of the previous career politicians that put the country in this place it is today along with the "Global economy/ one world order thing & blame it all on Trump trying to make the cheaper imports cost as much as American made some manufacturing back here not only to better our economy but make America more independent from foreign communist countries .

If the US still produced most of the products we consume here on American soil our economy would be better & the so called interruption in the supply chain during the pandemic never would have happened !! Plus the fact that if you ask most any career politician which country is the biggest threat to the US they will say China yet they still allow them to buy up American soil, produce most American goods consumed here like EVERYTHING in Walmart plus China being the biggest producers of pork products now but all of this is okay in your eyes ??

Sounds good to me Yah the Trumpies are way out of line that F N Trump is a POS ...

My totally unbiased and scientific opinion:

Harris: probably an IQ around 120-125. Not particularly high for a lawyer, but she did pass the California bar exam (2nd try but California was a tough exam back then) was by any account I’ve seen a generally competent practicing prosecutor. I would have a better idea if she’d written anything of substance. This is a pretty average score for lawyers and I see no reason to assume greater or lesser intelligence.

Trump: around 100-110. The best information we have is that he was a lackluster student who probably didn’t have good grades and almost certainly had a poor SAT score (which correlates highly with IQ) since he didn’t get into any kind of elite/competitive college; he went to Fordham and then transferred to Penn (itself the weakest Ivy at the the time), apparently with some family assistance. we have no post-grad testing (LSAT/bar exam/GRE) to go by. Most college grads are above average in IQ, but against that we have many of his coworkers casting aspersions on his intellect. We’ve also seen little written product by him (ghostwriters don’t count), and really no reason to estimate him as anything more than a slightly above average intelligence. Clearly he is a gifted salesman, but salesmen typically fall well within the average range.

So the dream of MAGA world is a great renaissance in traditional American manufacturing. We’re going to make all our cars, furniture, tools, clothes etc. here so we don’t need trade or relationships with other nations. So who is going to work in all these factories? Every factory I know of has a difficult time finding and keeping workers. Most factories I know of rely on lots of immigrant labor. Most American kids don’t want factory jobs doing repetitive labor for 8 hours a day. Americans have voted with their pocket books. They want imported consumer goods because they are cheaper and sometimes higher quality than American made products. No amount of MAGA tariff propaganda will change that.

The exception I would say is critical medical, food and national defense related products should be produced here.
