Joe Ferguson forever Posted March 13 Posted March 13 (edited) Welp, there goes whatever was left of real Republicans. Conservative posters here aren't bothered. there aren't any traditional R's. The tent is getting smaller https://finance.yahoo.com/news/the-stock-markets-fate-all-depends-on-tariffs-080026877.html Guggenheim Partners Investment Management CIO Anne Walsh told Yahoo Finance on Wednesday that the "the on, then off, then on and then off again narrative" surrounding tariffs is driving volatility in the market. And as long as that persists, there likely isn't a direct path higher for stocks. "It doesn't feel like a smooth trajectory [for stocks] because of all of the noise," Walsh said. Piper Sandler chief investment strategist Michael Kantrowitz recently offered similar sentiment, writing in a note to clients: "[We’re] unlikely to see a material recovery in equities until we see the start of fiscal policy uncertainty abating," noting that a recent surge in fiscal policy uncertainty, as measured by an index tracked on Bloomberg and seen below, has coincided with the market's recent slide. I hadn't really considered that. these are strange times. all types of strange economic forces at work and most aren't good for American consumers or investors. 1
B-Man Posted March 13 Posted March 13 This is the last edition of the Cortland Standard. The presses have been silent since August, when we shifted our printing to a facility in Oswego. At the time, I had hoped that cost-saving measure would give us some wiggle room. Unfortunately, despite the hard work and dedication of my talented colleagues, we cannot go any further. [...] Our print readership continues to decline, and our digital subscriptions have grown too slowly to make up the difference. Advertisers increasingly want to focus their marketing efforts online, at much lower prices. The cost of essential software goes up every year. The cost of fuel is up. The cost of newsprint is up. I can’t afford to pay my people what they’re worth. I can’t afford to publish this newspaper any more. That was what actually happened. Did you see the words "Trump's tariffs" anywhere in that entire statement? Neither did we. Now Chuck Schumer will explain what he'd like everybody to believe happened: The paper was in business over 150 years and lyin' Chuck would appreciate it if you'd believe they went under after just 50 days of Trump. https://twitchy.com/dougp/2025/03/13/lying-chuck-schumer-tries-blaming-local-ny-newspaper-going-under-on-trumps-tariffs-n2409772 1 1

I heard an R commentator on CNN say that 56% of Americans can't drum up $1000 for an emergency expense. They mostly voted for trump. They don't have 401k's. They don't care except they really, really want to "own the libs". But, yeah, I'm not looking. Unfortunately, my mental arithmetic is still fairly good. 1
