It was coming anyways but Dems added fuel to the fire by pumping trillions of dollars into an economy that couldn't keep up with the jump in demand. You could just feel it every time you went grocery shopping. That's why they lost (not immigration) despite the stock market being near record levels. If Trump stops looking at the stock market to alter his trade policies then we're screwed. It's what kept him in check his first term. Immigration is VERY much tied to inflation, too. Trump has scared away many new immigrants, but those workers help keep prices down by taking jobs that are necessary. If goods and services can't be done because there is no one to do the job, that restricts supply and prices rise as a result. 1

Super educated, just an incredible woman. But the dems never figured out a path that was logical or sustainable. Which sort of made it worse for those that tried to do it by the book. Ultimately it exposed them in the elections. Now we are paying the price for that mistake. Few people have a problem with legal immigration. I'm the son of (legal) immigrants for FCOL. They just like to conflate legal with illegal. 3 hours ago, Andy1 said: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2025/03/10/ontario-canada-doug-for-electricity-surcharge/82221829007/ So Ontario is now implementing their 25% surcharge on electricity going to NY, MN and MI. I guess this is what winning looks like. I’m sure MAGA likes higher electricity bills. If those people can choose their electric supplier like we can here in CT, Canada's gonna take a bath. 1

Pent up demand, low supply, and free money from both Trump and Biden. I point this out not to play the blame game, but to stress that everyone is complicit in that mess. Now Trump is in charge, and it's his mess to clean up. Instead he golfs. I wish all he did was golf. 2 1

Andy1 Posted March 12 Posted March 12 Trump still refuses to give a plausible reason for why tariffs are necessary on Canada and Mexico. Anyone who believes the fentanyl story is a fool. He is accusing Canada of ripping us off when they are following the trade agreement he negotiated. No serious economist supports this approach to economic policy. After the election, he claimed the economy was doing so well because he won the election. Now the 4 trillion $ lost is because of the terrible economy he got from Biden. The fact is he inherited a great economy from Biden and is now steering us towards a recession. Personally, I think the orange idiot is just a sick psychopath who enjoys seeing other people suffer. Make them feel pain then enjoy the moment when they beg for relief through the actions only he can do. He enjoys seeing business CEOs suffer as they face massive disruption from the tariffs. He likes taking their phone calls as they beg for relief. He also just doesn’t give a F about the financial damage to the retirement accounts of regular Americans. This is why tariffs are on on Tuesdays, off on Thursdays, then back on Fridays.

If enough damage is inflicted on Canada, the opportunity to annex us is just gravy. In theory it’s possible the clumsy implementation won’t matter and the plan will benefit the US over time. But if the plan fails, the US will have burned every bridge and their economy will take years to recover. Here’s a good article basically saying the plan isn’t supported by many economists, and that Trump’s first foray into tariffs during his first term were a failure. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c20myx1erl6o.amp Maybe this time it’ll work, maybe not.

That is the popular speculation. But I don’t think he cares about paying for the tax cut. In his first term, he had no problem ballooning the federal deficit. He doesn’t care about paying the bills for his actions. The idiot had no problems running his businesses into bankruptcy multiple times. There will be no consequences to him if he does his tax cut without paying for it. Watching other millionaires and billionaires squirm is much more fun for him. 1

Tommy Callahan Posted March 12 Posted March 12 Level tariffs or actual free trade with Canada would be nice. The left likes to ignore the current tariffs that both Canada and Mexico have on us products and industry. When the actual gdp shrunk for two quarters in a row under Biden. The left said it's not a recession. Everything. Is fine. Same with the month labor reports that showed manufacturing and higher paying jobs going overseas along with the constant increase in state jobs. Everything in the private sector was fine. Now they are going nuts and screaming about the stock market. That's not the economy and was being propped up by federal and state massive spending.
