But he did still play 92% of defensive snaps for the Bears so if that was what knocked him down that feels like an incredibly high threshold. And yea, if it was that Jimmy G (also a 4th) being a pick ahead after playing far less is odd. If I understand the argument correctly, comp picks are based on what you lost. The playing time would be based on their contributions to the team prior to them moving on, 2022 in this case. Edmunds played 72% of the defensive snaps in '22, which would (by some people's theories) reduce by some factor what he was signed for. It is possible that playing time in both seasons matters too. However it is calculated, there is no reason for this information to be so secret. I could have lived with a 4th if Beane knew it at the beginning of the season or throughout the season what the likely outcomes were. Quote
nedboy7 Posted March 9 Posted March 9 a package of the 6 5th and 6th round picks gets us into the 3rd. 1 Quote

It only saved $1.4m of cap and he spent more than that on Edwards (who he could have let walk and paid nothing). I wonder if he knew he didn't have a third and thought three 5ths and two 4ths would give him enough firepower to get back into the top 100. The two 4ths and the 5th from the Bears OR our first 4th and the three 5ths both get us back into the last half dozen picks or so of round 3. I just don’t understand how a decent linemen and several draft picks are not worth more than a single 3rd round pick. Quote
SoCal Deek Posted March 9 Posted March 9 I was going to make a post showing everyone the robust list of over achievers the Bills have picked in the 4th Round in the last decade or more….but that list is REALLY short! (Really, really short.) Quote
QCity Posted March 9 Posted March 9 This is really weird. There's been between 7-9 3rd round comp picks the past few years, and this season there's only 4? Hmmm Quote

From 2022-2024, each year only 2 third round comp picks have been awarded based on free agent salary. All other third round picks in that timeframe have been awarded for minority HC/Executive hirings. Kind of looks like rather than third round comp picks being awarded to the top 5% of FA contracts like we were used to, they now cap it at the top 2 with the remainder being filled by the coaching comp picks. This is just a guess, maybe it will be different next year but it’s the third year in a row. 1 Quote

Making a change to only 2 no matter what the formula says doesn't seem right unless it was officially updated. Quote
Doc Brown Posted March 9 Posted March 9 That stinks. I heard all the value in the draft was pick 97 to 101. 1 Quote
