The players staying in college for NIL money has gutted this class. Pick 143 in 2024 is not the same as pick 143 in 2020 or 2028. That’s my point. I get the point. And I still think the point is we won’t know for years whether this pick turned out to be valuable or not, so I wouldn’t go around stating definitively this pick has very little value. Regardless of NIL they’re not cancelling day 3 of the draft. Quote

No chance we use all of these picks. I like Douglas, but would you look to get a 3rd back for him? Or even Rasul + a 4th and 6th for a 2nd? For a team that really wants a starting CB on a reasonable $ Quote

GASabresIUFan Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Bates played 35 snaps on offense (3.01%) and only 79 snaps on ST (18.37%). Yes, it's unlikely we'll stay as healthy next season as we did this past season on the OLine, but Bates is a luxury we could no longer afford. 1 Quote

Also we avoid having to take on a $2.567M dead cap hit in 2025 when we inevitably would have released him next offseason. Still I don't think this has anything to do with cap space. Ryan Poles just weirdly has a hard on for Ryan Bates so we are happily accepting his overpay. I’m an idiot and misread it. Thanks for the correction. Quote

For a team that really wants a starting CB on a reasonable $ We're not getting a 3rd for him. We paid a 3rd for Douglas last season, but we also got a 5th in return. And that was Midseason. I like Douglas too and I figured Tre was the odd man out. But listening to Beane talk about him at the presser, it does seem to me that Douglas isn't long for the team and Tre is staying. My guess is he or his agent aren't interested in not testing the market next season and/or we're not interested in doing something long term with Tre and Benford here. Maybe a late 4th or another high 5th? Hard to move guys on 1 year deals. 4 minutes ago, GASabresIUFan said: No, I know Chicago's only 5th is 143. I was looking for a link to the draft chart. Should've given a higher rd tender to Bates, but didn't. Then when the Bears offer sheeted him we matched it. We paid a lot for 2 seasons from a backup O-line and now we're eating 4mm deadcap for a depth guy. At least we got a 5th rd pick I guess. If we took on injuries on the line, we would be very thankful that being actually did this and gave us a quality back up stop bitching Quote

Bills were extremely lucky health wise on the OL last year. It won’t happen again. Yep this is obviously the year the IOL goes down FMLLL I'd rather have a high quality versatile IOL depth piece that knows our system inside & out than another rotational DE Quote

transplantbillsfan Posted March 5 Posted March 5 This is an awesome move! He was a backup and we were overpaying for him. Now we clear up over $3m in CAP space for a guy who played possibly a handful of snaps last season and no meaningful ones. As Sal Capacio said, Alec Anderson fills a similar role, has a full year in the system and is millions cheaper. I definitely think this ups the potential for a Center in the first few rounds, but with 11 picks now I think it would be negligence if we didn't draft a center. This draft is going to be super interesting. I've heard from some of the experts that this is a very top heavy draft in the sense that after rounds 3 or 4 the talent drops off a cliff. I expect Buffalo to make 5-7 picks in the first 4 rounds. I hope they all hit! Gonna be a fun draft! 1 1 Quote
Hsker4life Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Early 5th rounder for a dude who played 30 snaps last year? I’m okay with this. Quote

Because he said what he “brought” to the defense, instead of what he “brings”? I’ve seen people running with that person’s interpretation, which is quite a stretch imo. 1 Quote
Buffalo Super Fan Posted March 5 Posted March 5 The Buffalo Bills are probably going to use the Chicago Bears pick as draft capital to move up in the draft. So it’s a good trade for the Bills in my opinion. Go Bills! Let’s Go Buffalo Quote
