I think it was also about development/stagnation. Alec Anderson has some talent. He needs a bigger role but was blocked on the roster. 4 Quote

Also we avoid having to take on a $2.567M dead cap hit in 2025 when we inevitably would have released him next offseason. Still I don't think this has anything to do with cap space. Ryan Poles just weirdly has a hard on for Ryan Bates so we are happily accepting his overpay. 2 2 Quote

Could he end up being a very good starter yes… but for now a 5th is solid. A 5th is what they got for Cody Ford … so if this is good value then that was grand larceny.. Quote

I would bet they weren’t even shopping him. Bears probably just called to see if he’s available. Beane gave a price and that’s was that. Quote

But it really has very little value in this particular draft. We have no idea who will be selected at #143 and how they will turn out in the NFL. So we can’t say this has very little value. Plenty of examples of guys selected in the 5th who have turned out to be quite valuable. Quote

That's something they have to keep in mind when doing restructuring or extensions this year. Right now it looks like the Bills only have about $30M of 2025 cap to play with as well. 3 Quote

But that is ignoring the actual odds of success. This is not a typical draft. The players staying in college for NIL money has gutted this class. Pick 143 in 2024 is not the same as pick 143 in 2020 or 2028. That’s my point. 1 Quote
John from Riverside Posted March 5 Posted March 5 I know this is after the fact that I have been thinking about this for a while, if they might pull the trigger here I wonder if they do a full court press on keeping Edwards By the way, I’m a Bates fan sorry to see him go I wish him the best of luck 2 1 Quote

If this is the case I’m trading all the late round picks to move up in rounds 4-5. I’ll leave the draft making 6-8 picks but all 5th round or higher. Would rather target guys I really want then hope I hit on the 27th ranked WR in round 6. Or get picks for 2025. 1 1 Quote

DabillsDaBillsDaBills Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Feels like Beane kinda bungled this going back to 2022. Should've given a higher rd tender to Bates, but didn't. Then when the Bears offer sheeted him we matched it. We paid a lot for 2 seasons from a backup O-line and now we're eating 4mm deadcap for a depth guy. At least we got a 5th rd pick I guess. 1 Quote
Warriorspikes51 Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Perhaps Edwards has a verbal agreement to re-sign? Quote

BillsFanForever19 Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Current Draft Capital, including forecasted Comp pick for Edmunds, and their Modern Trade Chart Value: Round 1 - 28 (209) Round 2 - 60 (88) Round 3 - 99 (36) Round 4 - 129 (18) Round 5 - 143 (14) Round 5 - 159 (10) Round 5 - 162 (10) Round 6 - 192 (6) Round 6 - 198 (5) Round 6 - 206 (4) Round 7 - 246 (1) Lots of capital for movement around, especially on Day 3. No chance we use all of these picks. 2 1 Quote
Blank Stare Posted March 5 Posted March 5 I like Bates, so I don’t love it, but I get it. Not going to get all worked up over a backup lineman. Take the pick and move on. 2 1 Quote

Doc Brown Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Wish they threw in DJ Moore with the deal but at least we got something. 1 Quote
