And you know this how?

He was coveted by Beane as a pass-catching receiver who would play a significant role in the offense.

And when he got to Buffalo, the asinine coaches failed to integrate him into the offense and he became a special teams player.

Buffalo has been a place where veteran RBs go to die.

I undertsand the release, but Beane traded for the guy and they hardly used him.

What a waste.

This is what I said would likely happen when people were worried a while back about Beane's comments.  His contract was just too easy to cut for cap issues, he was always going to need to be cut, but I do think they would still bring him back cheaper if he wants to be back and compete in camp.

Why would he sign back here?  To sit on the bench or be a healthy scratch every week?

There are teams out there that will actually utilize his talents.

It's one of those situations where the Bills don't need him and he doesn't need the Bills.

Didn’t Beane previously state he told Hines he’d be on the roster?

I think the comment was "do right by him"

By guess is that they went to him looking for a pay cut because the $5.5 M was a lot for a player who was a gadget two years ago but if his agent dug in it's a no brainer

Everyone talking about Beane lying, who says he did?  We never got the 100% specifics of the agreement.  And as reported,it sounds like he failed a physical.

I think everyone drastically overstated the commitment

if it were guaranteed - it’d be on paper and not just a handshake.

They’ll let him shop his services around and then return at a cheaper price if he can’t find what he wants.

It’s the best courtesy they can afford him in the situation. Holding him til final cuts is much worse when you know he won’t play on that contract

You can't forecast anything like that. This is true. I still think a lot of the lack of usage is on Dorsey for not getting him SOME kind of small roll.

Either way, with the production the Colts ended up getting from Moss this year...I'll say we're square from the Hughes/Sheppard trade before that😂

The Hughes trade was a great one, nine years out of him!

He made significant impact on special teams and because he was traded mid-season he did not have time to be integrated into offense.

Yep. He didn’t have time to be integrated into the offense.

Hines, Harty and Neal cuts would save $11.7 million, Allen convert salary to bonus would free up about $18-22 million depending how they do it. That gets them to about $11 million over the cap without impacting the roster really at all (RB4, WR5, special teams guy).

Easy restructures/extensions for T Johnson, Douglas, Dawkins will get them under by $5-8 million, other things can be done without terrible future consequences, I bet they end up at least $20-25 million under at start of free agency.

You think the Colts got the same value the Bills did from those 2 trades? Moss didn’t even have 800 yards this year, was pretty much phased out by the end of the year

Harty next?

Though I'd have no problem with it, I think if Hines isn't here - it's less likely.

The difference between not having him on a release (3.2m saved) and keeping him on a restructure (2.2m saved) is just 1 million dollars.

I feel like Beane would rather keep him as the Returner and as a guy who has a year of experience in the system and with Josh for just a million. Even if he's just the last WR on the 53.

Though again, it doesn't matter to me either way.

I know the ACL injury wasn't 100% his fault, but it was still stupid by Hines. Why put yourself in a position to get injured in the offseason? You're 26-27, only a few years in the league if you're lucky. Jet ski after you've retired. He had this coming.

The point is that offseason / off-field /non-training injuries like of this nature are unacceptable. Buffalo shouldn't have been obliged to pay his salary last year.

Good call to axe his contract as it shows horrible judgement on the part of Hines.

He would likely compete for that Ty Johnson role.
