It’s not a good recipe to expect that he won’t have serious injury problems in the league. With that said I’m taking a flier in him but not at 28 There's no way all 32 teams pass on a fella with college production who just ran a 4.21 forty. Someone is taking him in the first. 1 Quote

Even when this D is close to loaded they fold in the playoffs. Even when they squeaked out a win they made old man Rivers look like 1989/1990 Joe Montana. And if you look at the number of WRs we visited with at the Combine (add McConkey, who we visited with at the Senior Bowl), there is reason to suspect heavy interest. That idea of Josh being Josh is a bad conclusion to draw, and I don't think Beane is dumb enough to make it. Quote

JakeFrommStateFarm Posted March 3 Posted March 3 4 hours ago, Dr. Who said: You might need someone better at describing play design and tactics to explain this properly. The Bills faced a lot more man coverage last year because they did not have a big X that could push past the initial permitted "interference" at the line of scrimmage, win with speed on outside routes, and bulldoze coverage on intermediate routes. If the Bills had that player, Diggs would face single coverage more often, and the middle of the field would open up for the slot receiver because the opposing team would have to devote more resources to the WR at the X. Again, I am uncomfortable having to explain all this, because I love McConkey, and I would be thrilled to get him. If there were a way to get the big X and McConkey, who I personally believe is more capable as an outside receiver than many here give him credit, I would be as happy as a pig in . . . mud. I certainly do not agree with those folks who see McConkey as just another slot and a redundancy for Shakir. He is a much more talented receiver, and has wider usage than Shakir. The big X that you speak of may already be on the roster in Justin Shorter. 6'4 235 and runs a 4.45. True Bills fans have already forgotten about him because he had a hard time getting on the field with Gabe and Sherfield ahead of him. There was just too much depth last season. That won't be the case this season as Shorter will have a good chance of getting playing time. Also you could move Shakir to the big X position and have Shorter back up both him and Diggs. Then go grab McConkey at 28, play him at slot and have Harty back him up. The big X that folks are looking for won't be on the board at the end of the first round or later. So go grab a really good slot that knows how to get open and can help Josh out 1 1 Quote
John from Riverside Posted March 3 Posted March 3 The nice thing about this draft is that it’s gonna be really hard to go wrong at wide receiver other not picking one at 28 I came into the weekend it being Franklin. He still there. There are like five wide receivers. I would be happy with. 2 Quote

And I don’t necessarily think Ladd is only a slot, but it seems everyone else does, so I’ll just take everyone’s word for it. No thanks. If we take him at 28 and any other guys named Franklin, Thomas, Mitchell, Legette are in the board, just shoot me now. Can’t believe I’ll be watching this crap again next season. If none of them are there, trade back or take the best defensive linemen there and try and get someone like Walker or Polk in the 2nd round. Or a trade back up to the early, mid 2nd for Worthy if he lasts that long. Of your going to go with speed and a guy that can get open, at least make it the fastest guy you can get. 9 minutes ago, John from Riverside said: The nice thing about this draft is that it’s gonna be really hard to go wrong at wide receiver other not picking one at 28 I came into the weekend it being Franklin. And Dez Walker who I expected would test through the roof this weekend. Looks like he’ll be a late 2nd to early 3rd round guy now. Maybe even higher if what some people expect actually happens and there’s a historical run on WRs in the first round with more than 6 coming off the board. 1 Quote

I haven't forgotten him, but I doubt Beane is willing to gamble that a fifth round pick is more than one option. I can't believe he won't want to add a more significant piece, where Shorter provides some redundancy. As I've said several times, I like Thomas, Mitchell, and Legette for that role. I doubt Thomas is there at #28. I think Mitchell may be gone as well. I suspect Legette will be sitting there. Fella earlier, must be @SoonerBillsFan was speculating about McConkey and comparing him to Diggs. It's not outlandish. I think McConkey could grow into the new Diggs, so clearly, he is worth taking at #28. But in my view, you would still need to strengthen the X. If you go with Ladd early, I believe you should try and trade up and grab Coleman in the second if he falls that far. There are some mid-round bigger receivers you could also consider. Conversely, if the Bills grab Legette, I'd want to find a way to get Pearsall or Roman Wilson. Well, ideally, I'd like to find a way to grab Mitchell or Legette, and McConkey. Such a strategy would cost assets, probably some 2025 picks, because you're moving up to make that happen. However Beane works it, I think he needs to come out of this draft with two young receivers. Honestly, I think it would be a shame not to do so given the potential at WR in this draft. 1 Quote

I think one or more of Thomas, Mitchell and/or Coleman will be there for us. I would be fine with any one of those 3 in the first, though Mitchell is my preference. If as some say Coleman drops into the second because of his 40 he will represent great value imo for whoever lands him. I think he's going to be very good. Don't quite know what to make of Franklin following his combine. Quote

I'm out on Franklin at #28, but he's another I would revisit in the second. Quote
