Think Bortles retired. Wentz would be comparable skill wise to Josh. He’s kind of an ass tho

That post from DCofNC made me look up Blake Bortles.   He's been out the league for 4 years.  Last season was an LA Rams backup in 2019.

He went to the AFCG as a relatively young QB in 2017 and was out of the league after 2 more years.  And not injury related.

Bills should stop wasting $2.5M every year on guys like Trabisky or Allen and draft a 6th or 7th round developmental qb on a cheap 4 year deal. It's not like Josh is getting injured anyway.

Which is why unless the Bills just extend Kyle A, I for one would gladly welcome Mitchell Trubisky back to the squad.  He seemed to enjoy it here, and isn't going to command any compensatory picks or a salary anywhere near what Pittsburgh just paid him. He'll likely not get much interest elsewhere to come in and compete for a starting job. In theory, he could lay down some roots here as a backup.

Barkley, Trubisky, Keenum, Kyle A, the Bills have shown they value having a veteran in that role. And he'd obviously be a good fit with Josh, has plenty of experience, has good mobility, get 'er done Beane!

I might be alone in this, but I’d rather have a completely different style backup than Josh. Joe Flacco would be ideal.

Care to elaborate as to why? When a system is designed around a player, and that is what we see in Buffalo, does it not seem like sound logic to have a similarly skilled player to back them up? Josh is a unicorn and cannot be replicated, but keeping the system rolling is a job of the back-up

More because of the fact that it throws off the opposing defense. If a totally different guy comes off the bench, their game plan goes out the window and they need to adjust on the fly. I guess it all depends on the circumstance. If it’s for an extended period of time then I’d rather have a back up w/ a similar skill set.

An ideal backup to me would be Gardner Minshew.    Minshew is not likely to get a starting gig anywhere, but has good experience including almost getting the Colts into the playoffs last year. He seems like would fit in well with the culture here and the team could still get by if Allen was to be out for an extended time.
