I think the Romo 5 interception game and losing on a field goal was the one loss that angered me the most.

With so many fans across the airwaves watching the game, practically anything that happened during those three hours was going to be discussed along the next day’s work conversations all throughout the country. Well, what happened during the course of this game was in point of fact incredible…and extremely dangerous. An intoxicated fan…I say intoxicated, because no sober person would do what this moron did…decided to take a hold of the rope which held the placekicking net in place along the west end line of the stadium.

The spectacle of this unnamed fan dangling at least 50 feet in the air above the playing surface while the game continued was unnerving, to say the least.
Even the ABC-TV crew chimed in while watching this spectacle.

Howard Cosell, a wordsmith for the ages, described this event as “…dangerous, disgraceful, and absurd.”

The fan hung on that rope, as the fans and players watched. Many gasps could be heard over the airwaves, and certainly they were soundly heard by those who were in attendance and who were doing the gasping.

This crazy fan hung on that rope for practically 10 full minutes until he somehow miraculously made it back to his departure point on the front row of the upper ledge of Rich Stadium. He then departed the stadium with several police and security personnel giving him a much-deserved escort.

I agree; that first SB vs. Dallas was by far the most embarrassing day in Bills history, and it will be forever hard to beat. The one football game that the whole world is actually watching, a game that is purportedly played between the two best teams in the sport... and the Bills got beat down like it was Vanderbilt vs. Alabama. Nine turnovers IN THE SUPER BOWL. I have pretty much blocked it out of memory, but when I think back, it burns like no other.

It’s hard to imagine a less well prepared team going into a big game.  Levy was a good coach, not a great coach. It was clear after that game that he’d never lead the Bills to a SB win.  Do you fire a coach who has led you to three straight SB’s?  In hindsight, the answer is, yeah you probably do.  Blow it up and let your GM start the rebuild. Instead we fire the GM and keep the coach.

 

Does this give any insight to our present situation?  I think yes.  McDermott should be on the hot seat this year.  Super Bowl or bust.  If we don’t do in 2024, time to move on.

There has been so many embarrassing moments being a bills fan. Way to many to count.

These players are all about themselves. Now much more than before. It has definitely soured my taste for the nfl.

I 100% agre McDermott should be gone at the end of 2024 if we finish the season about the same, again.

 

Hell, I think he should have been gone a couple years ago!

 

Here's the thing: what does Pegula think?  That's all that's important.

 

Hell, Pegula may not even realize there's an issue going on with his coach.

 

Regarding the SBs, back then, the NFC was a notch up on the AFC.

 

They were like 2 different leagues, to an extent, and we were the cream of the AFC for a good few years.

The problem is we were straight not as good as the best teams from the NFC in the same period.

 

Washington KILLED US and were a much better team.

 

Dallas, the same thing....twice.

 

The one exception was the 1990 season when I do believe we were the best football team in the league.

 

Should have beaten the Giants in XXV, on way or the other, but such is life as a Bills fan.

seriously.. .no other team has the list of absolute Fu@kery we have... sure, there's teams that were horrible and awful going 0-16.... but id rather go 0-16 than say, self destruct with 13 seconds, or a miss a FG to win after getting 5 turnovers from tony romo, or fumbling with a minute or so left after not beating NE in a decade... its just so ridiculous. Being a bills fan is like being in an abusive relationship you cannot leave. Unfortunately for the real fans like us, its seared into our souls.

I agree completely! It is a bad relationship we're in. Constantly lied to, treated like crap until they want your money. ***** man, I would have divorced the nfl a long time ago.

That actually worked out as Kelly developed and we sucked so bad we were in position to draft Bruce Smith. If Kelly plays in Buffalo out of college we might not in same position.

belicheck put 3 down lineman out there for the first 3 QUARTERS...Thurman Thomas scored a touchdown, rushed for 135 yards on 15... yes... 15 carries, and caught five passes for 55 yards.... 9 yards a carry. The second billisest thing from that game was that DON SMITH scored the first touchdown in bills SB history. Or how about 3rd and 13, buffalo hits Oj anderson like 5 times before he miraculously gained 14.... poor scotty should never have been in that position... Its 1000000% on marvs head that they lost that game. STUPID.

I split seasons with a guy for a couple of years.  The seats were in the section that dude fell into, probably 4 or 5 rows behind us.  Sounded like a gun shot, dude hit hard.  I can't remember if anyone else got hurt but I just remember thinking, wow man, imagine if a little kid was sitting underneath that.

No, no, no, my friend…the most embarrassing day in Bills history is February 10, 2000, when future HOFers Bruce Smith, Andre Reed, and Thurman Thomas were unceremoniously released by John Butler.

 

Thurman was so pissed off he signed with the DOLPHINS.
