As far as re-builds are concerned I'm not sure you can be better set up for a HC gig then they are currently in Washington. #2 overall pick in a QB rich Draft... New management that is pretty fired up... The most cap space in the NFL going into 2024...They pick 2nd, 36th, 40th, 67th, 100th, 102nd, 137th, 180th, 219th... They already have McLaurin and Dotson... They have a decent running game. I mean.... They need work, but they are also set up pretty well. Compare that situation to some of the other openings this off season. There are no guarantees in the future. 2 Quote
Cheektowaga Chad Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Some solid jobs are potentially open next season Cowboys, eagles, Steelers, bills chiefs among others 1 Quote
HappyDays Posted January 30 Posted January 30 I'm going to guess the "sources" are in Washington's front office. Perhaps the damage control mindset survived Dan Snyder's exit. 1 2 Quote
Low Positive Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Of all the teams that fired HCs this cycle, only the Chargers got their guy. 2 Quote
TheFunPolice Posted January 30 Posted January 30 McDermott is here for the entirety of Josh Allen's career, so anyone thinking of Johnson coming here as HC should do themselves a favor and forget about it. He is as secure as any coach in the NFL. There's literally nothing other than a total collapse and missing the playoffs 2 years in a row that would even put him in danger of being fired. 1 2 Quote

So his stock will remain up, he may. "finish the story" then move on to bigger and better opportunities. Smart choice given the options 1 Quote
eball Posted January 30 Posted January 30 I think a lot of coaches are realizing that the grass isn't always greener, particularly if they are in a good spot with people they like and respect. 1 Quote
TheFunPolice Posted January 30 Posted January 30 I get what he's doing, and it makes some sense. But remember when Brian Schottenheimer was too good to even interview for the Bills HC gig because he was such a hot HC candidate and had so many options? 3 Quote
Baba Booey Posted January 30 Posted January 30 He sees that McDermott is on the hot seat and if he doesn't perform, Buffalo will be looking for an Offensive minded coach. And who wouldn't want to coach Josh Allen!!! 😉 2 Quote

I think Johnson is a little hotter of a candidate but if the Lions regress next year those flames can cool. 2 Quote

Perfect- the dream of hiring him as our HC is still alive. Another season without appearance should end with a pairing of Allen and Johnson 1 1 Quote
HappyDays Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Oh man imagine if they pivot and hire Aaron Glenn... Quote
Logic Posted January 30 Posted January 30 (edited) If I was the hottest HC candidate in the league, I'd spend another year burnishing my resume with that Detroit offense rather than go to a team with no QB, too. Guys like Johnson have the luxury of waiting for the perfect opportunity. No need to jump at the first jobs that come available, especially if one of them involves being employed by the Washington Commanders. Edited January 30 by Logic 1 Quote

Another season without appearance should end with a pairing of Allen and Johnson So, your perfect dream involves the Bills NOT winning the Super Bowl next year. Got it. Also, allow me to be the first one to pee in everyone's Cheerios for next year. Barring a 5 or 6 win season or the complete loss of the locker room, Sean McDermott isn't going anywhere in 2025. So which of those are you rooting for? 3 1 1 Quote
Doc Brown Posted January 30 Posted January 30 He’s just waiting until the Cowboys, Bills, Eagles, or Bears pull the plug next year. Smart. Quote

If they make the conference championship game and lose to the Chiefs I have no doubt in my mind Terry will see that as an improvement and bring McDermott back. 1 1 Quote

That's our 2025 coach right there after mcdoormat blows another playoff game next season. 🤞 I very much doubt anyone is waiting for the bills hc job specifically to open up to get a promotion lol. I mean it might work out that way for him but I’m sure he’s not counting on it he’s probably gambling that at least one guy on a pretty long list of good teams will fire their coach Edited January 30 by Generic_Bills_Fan Quote
