Agree with most said except AJE, let him walk, not worth big bucks, go sign a vet minimum

Epenesa is so over rated. Unfortunately he's alot like Rousseau.  They'll have 2-3 amazing high motor games each year then be invisible the rest.  Players like Bruce or Mario were rarely invisible. We gotta keep drafting until  Beane can find a true game wrecker.  AJ has averaged 3.5 sacks/ yr and Rousseau 5.5/ yr.  That's not going to cut it.

DQ for sure - him Milano and TB43 shores that middle up for YEARS to come with Big Ed there as well

DQ is definitely the #1 priority. I want Jones and Oliver in there the majority of the time. To hell with this failed 10 man rotation that doesn't work.

I'm not sure that any of these guys are a must have.  A lot of them would be really good to get back as long as it can be done at good price.  Some bad teams with a lot of cap flexibility will overpay some of these players.  I'm sure the Bills have prioritized the free agents and will do what they can to keep the ones they want.

Every year free agents believe they are going to strike it rich, only to have to settle for a smaller contract or a one year prove it deal.  Some of the Bills' free agents will end up this way.  In any event, Beane has a big job ahead of him.

I find these discussions very interesting. Very few folks on here want to keep Epenesa because they’re certain he’ll get a big pay bump from some other team….yet somehow they don’t think the same thing is true for the quality and pay scale that applies to guys from the other 31 teams. Now, I’m not saying they should get into a bidding war for Epenesa but I’m also not convinced the rest of the league wants to either.

He's been a massive disappointment as a high draft pick. Let someone else pay for him to be good for three games and then disappear.

100% agree!

I pick up the 5th year guarantee on Rousseau and make him earn an extension with a great 5th year.

But you see that’s just the issue. You and many others always believe that some other team is going to overpay for players we know aren’t anything special. So wouldn’t that also mean that the Bills are going to do likewise for other team’s cast offs? I can see a bad scheme fit, like a zone CB versus a man CB, but I don’t think the problem with AJE is scheme fit.

Market value per Sportrac ...

Davis - 13.6 M

Floyd - 8.1 M

Jones - 6.8 M

Epenesa - 5.6 M

Rapp - 5.5 M

Dodson - 4.8 M

Settle - 3.7 M

Hyde - 3.7 M

Jackson - 3.1

MMurray - 2.4 M

They didn't have a market value on the others ... How much over the cap are the Bills currently ?

I'd love to have Jones (6.8) ... Epenesa (5.6) ... Dodson (4.8)  and those three would be 17.2 M against the cap... Miller will cost us 17.1 M

To my naked eye, it looked like they got away from that a bit towards the end of the year. I felt like Oliver was in there a lot more than he was in earlier in the regular season. I agree with you. Oliver should be like 90% of the snaps and DQ probably around 75.

Agree about rotation. Theory is players come in waves and always fresh. Plus end of year fresher legs.....Didnt work. Our DL failed in both playoff games.

Now if YE OLE was sitting down and hashing this out... YE would want to try to keep Daquan Jones, Rapp, and either Floyd or Epenesa. Rapp wasn't great (the int in Miami notwithstanding), but we need someone there that is not Cam Lewis or Hamlin, and he has a year in the system.

Some of these guys like Dodson and Jackson if they don't find a market elsewhere would be ideal to keep, but not at significant cost.

Spotrac has Gabe projected around $13.6 mil and Tee Higgins projected around $18.6 mil. If those numbers prove to be reasonably accurate, and the powers that be have any inkling to try to bring Gabe back, it would be great to take a swing at Higgins instead. YE OLE would still come back and take a swing at WR in the first rd too, gents!

If the Bengals don't tag Higgins, You can bet Callahan will be doing everything he can to get him to Tennessee. Titans have a RIDICULOUS amount of cap space available.

Jones is close to a "must sign."  Beyond him, it's going to be a balancing act that depends on what the Bills can do with cap management and what they can find in free agency among value prospects who might have some untapped upside.

This defense doesn't work when it matters most, blow it all up

Well considering we have just about nobody under contract besides Milano, Tre and Von, you might just get your wish.

Must-Have

1. Daquan Jones

Nice-To-Have

1. AJ Epenesa

2. Dane Jackson/Cam Lewis (depth)

3. Ty Johnson/Latavius Murray/Damien Harris

That's it. That's the list.

(Assuming Micah Hyde has decided to retire)

Why would Epenesa get "big bucks"?
