I don't know what his trade value is, but I sure was concerned about him. The consensus back then was that he was going to have a Matt Ryan-like career.

Realisitcally? A 5th or 6th round pick. Maybe a 4th with a pick swap.  He's shown less promise than Darnold.

Cleveland picked up a portion of Mayfield's salary when they traded him to Carolina.  NE might get stuck doing the same thing.  It's guaranteed, so that really hurts any trade value.

He's worth a late-round pick.  He is good enough to be a backup QB in the league and there's some value in that.  While he can start games and have a good performance here or there, he's certainly not a "franchise" quarterback.  He became a star at Alabama because he was surrounded by talent that was far superior to that of the opposing team.  See AJ McCarron (except AJ gets extra consideration for his better half).

The same can be said for Zach Wilson, who can get hot occasionally.  Funny how both got hot vs the Bills this season.
