With Hyde and possibly Poyer gone, what’s the possibility of transitioning Elam to Safety? I am in favor of it honestly. Hes not even remotely physical enough to play either safety spot. Always seems scared to stick his nose in. Quote
machine gun kelly Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Poyer has one year left on his contract, so we only need one safety. Quote
MrEpsYtown Posted January 24 Posted January 24 It certainly feels like they could go all in on Kyle Dugger with how much they liked him pre-draft. Jeremy Chinn is an interesting case. He looked like a game-breaker drafted for Steve Wilks' defense, then with all the defensive changes he kind of got lost in the shuffle in terms of his fit. He could potentially fit here, but he needs to be a full-time safety, not just a big nickel. Quote
NewEra Posted January 24 Posted January 24 He’s a press man corner that has issues operating in space. I vote no chance Quote
Solomon Grundy Posted January 24 Posted January 24 (edited) Re-sign Rapp. Draft one. There's a plethora of decent ones in this draft. Just not in Rd 1 Edited January 24 by Solomon Grundy Quote
947 Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Rapp is awful in coverage. He's a solid tackler, but coverage is a bigger part of playing Safety in our system. I don't think they bring him back. I think we'll draft one & pick up 2 FA guys. I like the idea of getting miscast CBs from another team who can be converted here. Quote
BearNorth Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Douglas who will be 29 next season - may have a limited shelf life as a CB1. With his size and tackling, a move to safety may be in the cards. CB and WR's are becoming younger every year. 1 Quote
BuffaloMatt Posted January 24 Posted January 24 I think Poyer stays. He played well this year and will be the elder statesman. Rapp too. Quote

Playing safety would exacerbate just about every weakness Elam has besides ballhawking. He's a man press corner who can't tackle. Quote

Plus he was pretty good there Beneford can play but is hurt a lot. What are the stats on the first two seasons? No complete seasons. Maybe not one season of games total. Until we see some duribility, not sure he is in the long term plan. Quote

Maine-iac Posted January 24 Posted January 24 It was encouraging to see Elam stick his nose in there on run defense a few plays before he picked it off against Pittsburgh. Now he got absolutely run over but the effort was nice to see. Quote
BIGFOOTspaceman Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Hard no for Tre at Safety....Love the guy but he's more of a "careful" tackler. He's not someone who is looking for contact like Poyer, Hyde, or Rapp. Quote

BigAl2526 Posted January 24 Posted January 24 This very same discussion happened a few weeks ago. Not going to happen. Elam's skill set is not a fit for what Buffalo wants from their safeties, not even close. Benford is more of a fit as others have suggested, but I think the Bills need him at CB. Quote
harmonkillebrew Posted January 25 Posted January 25 Benford is solid at CB. With him and Douglas, it's likely Tre is gone. I think re-signing Rapp is the more likely scenario Quote
Aussie Joe Posted January 25 Posted January 25 (edited) Why do they need to convert or transition a CB to safety? Just draft one or get one in FA … They don’t need to break the bank or get a guy in the first round … I have confidence McD and Beane can find a Safety or two … Edited January 25 by Aussie Joe Quote
