BillMafia716ix Posted January 23 Posted January 23 At the end of the day our Bills were a team playing on borrowed time. The fan in me wanted to see us overcome it and pull it off but at the end of the day the Bills just had too many key guys hurt at the wrong time. It was fine when we played Mason Rudolph but expecting us to beat Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid with 3rd and 4th stringers was a pipe dream. McDermott worked his magic to get us in the playoffs with our duct tape defense but our time just ran out. Two years in a row we’ve been plagued by the injury bug. Just once I want to see this team fully healthy in the postseason and unfortunately for us it didn’t happen Again! 2 3 1 Quote
Low Positive Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Sure, but the game was still RIGHT THERE at the end for the taking. That had nothing to do with injuries to the defense. 1 2 Quote

Buffalo03 Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Get ready for it. Because we will have a bunch of guys hurt again next year. It happens every damn season 1 3 Quote

My take is that it was a great football game between two good teams. Someone had to lose. Unfortunately, it had to be the Bills again. We are looking for absolutes and/or excuses but it just came down to a few plays. 1 1 1 Quote

All they did was expose our weakness. They averaged 8 yards a play and only had 5 3rd downs. Quote

Yes...and what it showed is that the Bills need more playmakers...aka wide receivers on offense to compete. We were in the game even with that banged up D. Josh had nowhere to go with the ball more times than not. Quote

If the Chiefs beat the Ravens, which I expect, everyone will see how good we actually were even with our injuries. Quote

It says something about the coaching but it’s not as bad as people think it is But there is no doubt that we lost this game because of defense and lack of having our starters on the fuel forced 1 punt all night 1 Quote
BearNorth Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Our defense against the Chiefs was down 4 game 1 starters - Tre White, Milano, Benford, and Bernard - who all played every defensive snap in the opening game. They were replaced by Douglas, who was IMHO an upgrade, Klein who was a huge downgrade, the rest of the snaps were picked up by other folks who were roster depth on opening day, [Dane, Dodson]. Tough situation out of coaching control Quote
Returntoglory Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Was our kicker hurt as well? Asking for a friend ... 1 Quote
Aussie Joe Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Yet they were favourites to win the game ..with all those injuries Quote
McBean Posted January 23 Posted January 23 By the time mcdermott is canned, we’ll have an entire book of excuses. when does Terry realize the problem is the HC? Quote

But probably not all at the same positions. If the injuries were spread out instead of all at LB and CB, we’d have done better than giving up 8yds/play. Then you’re playing 2nd stringers instead of guys that were retired until 10 days ago. Quote
zow2 Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Yep, this time we had exactly what we wanted. Home crowd behind them, Ball on the 27, Two minutes remaining, 2nd down and 9. This part wasn’t about Mahomes magic or anything. This should have been get the 9 yards, get the first down, milk the clock down as far as you could giving proper chance to get the late TD. If a FG was needed it should have been from closer in and with virtually no time left to ensure OT. It was a weird moment but the time on the clock was more important than getting a TD with basically two mins remaining. That would’ve given KC a great chance to go down against the depleted D and win at the end in even more heart breaking fashion. Quote

But if the defense had been healthy, it would likely have stopped more drives, and the Bills could have won in a walk. Even with Gabe out and Diggs, Harty, and Sherfield useless, Allen was amazing. If only he could catch the beautiful passes he threw--and kick and punt, too. And coach. We need more Allens! 1 Quote
Ethan in Cleveland Posted January 23 Posted January 23 (edited) Defense got old Guys like Miller, Epenesa and Settle suck and Rousseau has not developed Oline is much improved. Kudos Beane on that one Run game is better WR's are for sh!t Allen remains our only hope. Without superhuman Allen Bills lose by 20 at home to a weak Chiefs team. Beane tried and whiffed at improving the WR group. He picked a decent TE but the wrong one and a very good OG. He trusted Spencer Brown would play better and we were all wrong that he would not. Bernard played better than almost all thought he would. In the end all window dressing for the biggest issue We were outcoached time and time again. Pats, Broncos, Eagles, Chiefs all losses attributable to McD's defense getting savaged. They still have Allen and a lot of good pieces. The last two drafts have produced some nice players. A few strategic cap moves, get a better #2 WR day 1 of the draft, let Kincaid continue to develop, and replace some age on defense with youth and speed. And Miller might be better next season fully healthy. Tell McD it is SuperBowl or bust. Edited January 23 by Ethan in Cleveland 1 Quote
