What’s the alternative? They have to sign him.

Let him go and draft his replacement

This isn't rocket science

Although, I'm happy if they keep him forever

Show some respect people. Tua is the greatest September QB in NFL history.

As long as there are NFL regular season games in September, some quarterbacks will reach mega deals. It’s wild. Winning playoff games isn’t even close to a criterion.

As much as I love to dunk on the Dolphins, there is a logic to this.

Tua has a massive cap hit from his 5th year option. The Dolphins are just as over the cap as we are with even more valuable pending free agents, but while we have the luxury of kicking  ~20M down the road on Allen's contract the only way they get to mitigate that hit is with an extension. And that means paying the going rate, purging some of your best talent or cutting bait and trying a QB from scratch.

I didn't say it was good logic, and their situation is self inflicted, so I am enjoying their pain.

Absolutely go with the bolded, if I'm the Dolphins. Tua is at his ceiling.

Keep the real talent and draft a new QB. That's the only way they potentially reach championship caliber.

I mean I dont disagree. If you are looking to make a gutsy long term call I am calling the Commanders who have a new owner who wants a clean slate, or the Titans, or the Giants (or even Patriots) who are in QB purgatory and fleece them for picks

But I don't think they have the intestinal fortitude

I hope not. They could make out like bandits.
