Allen with the blatant fake slide on the long run, then later draws a 15 yard penalty on a late hit on slide where the defender didn't hit his head.....but can you blame him for going for the tackle based on the fake earlier?

The slide is a play intended to protect the QB, not to do what Allen did.  That was garbage.

QB known for not sliding getting slandered for not sliding.  Can't make it up.

There was no fake slide by Allen, but there is a point, the defender is often in a lose-lose situation when attempting to takle a QB.

When Josh slowed, for sure the defenders processed "ok, he MAY slide", in that case, I could not takle him.

This decision could lead to a split-second indecision and Josh is gone.

I would call a late-hit on the QB only if it is blatant.

In my opinion the one called on Prescott on 3&2 must be a no-call, the one on Josh is borderline.

Mine is a naive opinion for a variety of reasons, but I think the whole 'QB slide' thing is nonsense anyway. If you come out to play on the battlefield, you should be fair game for defenders. Nobody is forcing you to cross the line of scrimmage.

A pump fake, juke, fake pitch...etc are all plays that by rule DO NOT require the defender to give up on the play.  A slide is specificially intended to protect the QB because by rule, once he slides he has given up, and by rule the defender must also.  It's not the same thing.

The defender was quoted after the game saying he wasn't sure if Josh was about to slide or not....causing him to pause...and not that Josh would know or care, but said player had already been fined and suspended for a late hits already this year.  The defender to Josh's front right also pretty much gives up on the play (which is his fault, didn't play to whistle) so probably also thought Josh was about to slide.  Doesn't look like a guy fighting to stay in the play and make a tackle at all.

Third time asking now, do you feel the same way about fake kneel downs and fake spikes?  Are they as damaging to the game as a fake slide?  Or are we selective in this logic?

That wasn’t a fake slide.

Maybe the issue for the OP is that was a run Mahomes could never have made.

Mahomes runs as if he’s about to slide on every step and that’s how he gets his yards.  By the OP’s definition he would lose 15 yards on every single run.

Allen runs through, over, and past people and the OP has a problem because he changed direction.

Congratulations on the win.  I am excited for the upcoming game adn I know the mafia is fired up to be hosting this in Buffalo.  Should be a fun week leading up to the game.  I'm looking forward to seeing Mahomes on the road for the first time in the playoffs.  Hopefully there won't be any bad calls etc that swing the game one way or the other and it's settled on the field.

Now that the game is in Buffalo for the first time in eons, it’s important that the game be fairly called.

I get the sense this will be a major thrust of KC’s media/PR efforts this week.

I think there was no intent to "fake slide". But he thought about sliding for a moment and started the process, then realized he didn't need to and stopped.

The roughing was an atrocious call. And I despise how he's always clamoring for a flag whenever a defender gets close to him.

Definitely not a fake slide. That being said, sliding (or the right of the QB to slide) DOES put defenders in a difficult position. They’re trying to stop the guy, but have to be careful. I can imagine that maybe JA doesn’t make that touchdown run if the defenders didn’t have to at least consider a slide coming.

I also frequently see defenders awkwardly diving over sliding quarterbacks to avoid the late hit, which always looks like injury risk to me.  All that said, it’s an observation and I don’t personally see a solution or rule adjustment possibility. Take away the QBs right to slide and he’s gonna get his head taken off.

A blatant fake slide? JA17 in a full sprint has to make a move/decision. He chose to split the defenders and run through them. Like he usually does. TD 🙌

That roughing call is made 100 out of 100 times.  You may not like it, but it wasn’t an atrocious call.

you deserve every milligram of abuse for this crazy troll thread.  there isn't even a hint of a "fake slide" on that run.

Anybody complaining about the roughing call just doesn't know what they're talking about.  That's drawing a flag every single time, and you see at least play like that every week if you watch non-Bills football.  There's just nothing at all controversial about that one.  Yes, Josh occasionally draws the soft personal foul, but that wasn't one of those.

The best part is watching the fan base of every team we could potentially play in the playoffs whine incessantly about anything that somehow could be construed to benefit us.

It’s fear.  Miami was afraid, Pittsburgh was afraid, now KC is afraid.  Next week it’ll be Baltimore or Houston.

Get used to it… JA got the refs in his pocket now and the NFL is rigged for the Bills this year!
