Chan Gailey dialed up some good screens, that’s the last time I remember good screens. Sucks because I love watching them 😀

Oh well… what i see that many top teams use screen plays a lot… and it works very well. 
 

With some good screen during the game, we would be unpredictable, now that we have Cook that defenses respect, it could work.

Unfortunately at times it felt like the only play that worked in Chan's playbook.

Here is what I don't get.  They said during training camp we were running them a ton. Then poof!  Gone...

Some teams just execute better.  Miami ran some of the worst screen plays I've ever seen the other night, in the cold...and KC diagnosed them instantly.

Given that we were starting Donald Brown and David Nelson at WR alongside Stevie, it was a miracle any time we completed a downfield pass back then. 
 

I wasn’t a fan of the Gailey hire, but I have to admit he proved his prowess as an OC here. Those teams were severely under-talented but managed to consistently move the ball.

correct,  the entire secondary is usually in zone and staring at the QB; can diagnose the screen very early ; this is why the pitchout to the WR works sometimes as dbs are backpedaling to the their spot at/prior to the snap

Spot on I had not thought it through to that point. Also Josh struggles with the super short pass .. it’s a timing thing.

The Rams kill with the WR screen. Used to be Cooper Kupp, now it’s Nuka. They catch it, see a hole, and sprint. It’s smart, the defense is either standing still, running towards you, or getting blocked immediately. 
 

Here’s the Bills problem: they can’t even catch these passes. We have no idea if they work yet. However, they also don’t set up WR and RB screens very well at all. I mean how predictable it it when we see Diggs or Harty immediately looking for the ball. Everyone watching sees the simpleton play before it even happens.

The timing is off, the line doesn't do a good job "selling it" meaning defenders are typically all over the RB/TE and the ball ends up in the dirt usually. Even watching yesterday there were a lot of "dirted" screens. Sure Houston scored on one, but if you aren't good at them to begin with, why would you call a play that is likely to not work or get called for an illegal man downfield penalty?  

 

Bills throw WR screens at times and they have had some success with them, and used to have great success with tunnel screens especially to John Brown for a few years on the "Gold Rip/Whip" audible. Have also seen a few TE screens work, but usually they are RPO plays it seems like even tho they are near the LOS.

Let' stop being silly, the Bills ran quite a few of these throughout the season and had some good success with them at times.  If your definition of "working" means they are going to gain 10 yards+ every time they run the play or more that's just not realistic, no matter how good you are at them. Sure they have had some ones recently that haven't been great, but I can recall plenty of ones that picked up good yards or first downs earlier this year. 

 

Also used to be very good running tunnel screeens with John Brown when Allen would audible to "Gold Rip/Whip". Don't seem to run those too often anymore although I have seen a few times this year with varying results.
