What’s the OTA, over the air?? like that’s not CBS or NBC….? Is CTV a station?? I can pull up almost every tv channel on the planet so if I do a search for Toronto ______ is it CTV? CTV is the broadcast station and OTA is over the air, meaning you should pick it up via antenna. Yeah, CTV is like NBC or Fox. Edited January 14 by Big Turk 1 Quote

Peacock sounds way easier at this point. This is what they are counting on. Then it will 2, then 3 you have to subscribe to. And then it will be PPV. Quote

I’m traveling and in a hotel so I think I may miss the Dolphins freezing their asses off. If the NFL does not think enough of their product to be sure it’s available to regular people, I’m not sure how much I should care. I’ve tried, and tried, and it’s STILL not good enough. This is getting like a high maintenance girl - just not worth it. P.S. - Watching on my phone is not an acceptable answer for a game in which the Bills are not playing….and even then 🤷♂️ EDIT: The guide says I will see something called Deal or No Deal on NBC instead. I don’t know what that is because it’s on NBC which I haven’t gotten at the house in I don’t know how long due to their dispute with my provider. Helluva business plan they are running making it impossible for people to see their programming. . can't you watch peacock on a hotel tv? Quote

Man with No Name Posted January 14 Posted January 14 that sucks. good luck with a bar. i know they were able to call ahead and get peacock for businesses, but likely only very sports minded bars would be on top of that. amazon being regular, has a dedicated channel for bars and restaurants, so that should never be a problem. I disagree. The demographic that they are after is the under 40 group. Majority of them don't have cable and stream everything. That's where the future is. 1 Quote

I mean, Courtyard was still giving all customers the paper edition of the WSJ recently (and charging them at checkout). I hadn't picked up a physical newspaper in years, and I'm old. Augie Posted January 14 Posted January 14 The 40 and under crowd will rarely be able to afford the prices they will be charging. But they want to cater to them in some ways, looking to the future. But I’m just not sure if they aren’t losing a bit of focus on (or care for) the present. Withhold games from me? I know, I have the option, but I did play by all the rules. I got more packages than I ever wanted just to be able to watch the Bills, and it still wasn’t enough to see an NFL playoff game except for over the shoulder of some people at a bar on a lady’s phone. No, the bar couldn’t get it either. The cool part? The guy I spent my time with played 7 years in the NFL, mostly as a Patriot (it’s OK, they were no good back then). It was a fascinating conversation about surviving the 6.5 year process of getting his CTE payout. He said without his wife there was no chance that would have happened. Even as a DB, his hands were NOT a pretty sight. I’m still pissed at the NFL, but I had a very interesting night. 1 Quote

Nope, it’s not the hotel’s fault. The NFL is just pushing the limit. Too far, IMO. We are at the Grand Bohemian in Greenville, SC if anyone looks it up. There are certainly finer places to stay, but it’s certainly not the Hampton Inn in Ocala. . Edited January 14 by Augie 1 Quote

This is just the beginning. They already started with the Thursday night games. In the coming years I would bet all prime time games will be on streaming. It sucks for the boomer generation but that's not who they are after. 1 Quote

Streaming is my present and not the problem. Being told by the NFL that I have to get every streaming service they say with no limitations is the problem. I have zero use for Peacock other than a game or two a year. That’s a PITA, but I can live with it. What pisses me off is I have to watch an NFL playoff game on a phone in a bar at a high end hotel. They took it too far. Period. Edited January 15 by Augie 1 Quote

Said this before with cable. Not everyone had cable. Not everyone will have streaming access unless it is turned into a utility. then you will have consolidation of streaming services which is just like how cable companies operste where they pay stations/ networks a fee per station to broadcast these on their server. 1 Quote

The Peacock game will be shown to the Buffalo area, Rochester, Watertown, and the Champlain Valley, at least, for those who get CTV either OTA or via cable. Also parts of MI, MN, ND, MT, and WA. It will also be in El Paso, TX and San Diego, CA OTA for those who get Canal 5. But for Detroit, getting CTV OTA is now all but impossible ever since the analog CKCO translator on Channel 42 in Sarnia shut down. Yuma, AZ and other Rio grande texas TV markets should be getting that station. I’ve lived in Seattle area and through cable we only go CBC. I think only the border counties got CTV because of over the air viewership. when WIVB had the broadcasting contract dispute and a game couldn’t air ..Niagara county, because of minimal CTV OTA rating viewership, CTV broadcast could not be blacked out. 1 Quote

While not everyone has cable they still put NHL, NBA, and MLB playoffs on cable stations. Cable is dying and most people don't have antennas to get OTA channels. Quote
chongli Posted January 15 Author Posted January 15 Peacock did a slick move: they set Oppenheimer to stream February 16. So if you signed up for the WC game it falls just outside the 30-day window. 1 Quote
