It has been 11 games since we attempted a field goal over 50 yards. And in that time, we have either went for 4th down or even PUNTED rather than kick a 50 plus harder. That’s different from previous years. 1 1 Quote

I watched him in warm ups at Tottenham and he was not much better than 50% from further out than 40. There has definitely been something going on with him physically this year. I can't be convinced otherwise. Prior to the Eagles game, it was reported that during pre-game warmups, his 55-yard FG kicks were falling 10 yards short. Something is up with him for sure. 1 Quote

Yobogoya! Posted January 12 Posted January 12 I think it's an interesting topic because even in his best years, Bass' accuracy has never looked like what I would call "pinpoint." Off the top of my head I can picture at least 3-4 "doinks" off the bar that went through the uprights. Those points count the same as any others, but if they bounce the other way... well, you get the idea. He's always had a big leg, but I think this year more his dicey kicks have just fallen the other way than they have before. Quote

ChronicAndKnuckles Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Defense was doing great the entire game and completely shut the Fins out in the 2nd half. Why risk giving them great field position attempting a 53 yard FG? Quote

Something is up with him for sure. I highly doubt that. If he couldn't make a 46 yard FG they wpuld find someone else. His kickoffs are going through the endzone. His leg is fine. McD rightly trusts Allen more than Bass. We all should. Our only hope is riding #17. McD finally seems to be getting it. And he didn't miss two FGs in Philadelphia. One was blocked. Quote

Saw it used once when I was an Editor. niggling /ˈniɡ(ə)liNG/ adjective causing slight but persistent annoyance, discomfort, or anxiety. "niggling aches and pains" Quote

Completely believable to me that he was struggling with his kicks. As I say I watched him warm up in Tottenham with my own eyes. I think he attempted 5 kicks from beyond 40 and another 4 from beyond 50 and hit on 5/9. Quote
stuvian Posted January 12 Posted January 12 if this brings an end to those lame Bass-o-matic jokes, I'm all in favour Quote
FilthyBeast Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Bass is probably having his worst year as a pro, but we are probably going to need him to make a big kick at some point in the playoffs. But yeah I'll also likely be very nervous when that happens especially if it's to tie or take the lead late in a game. Quote

He hasn't attempted a long fg forever. Yes there were two bad misses vs. Philly, yet only attempted 6 since then and made them all, however not one over 40. Surprisingly even I would have been okay with him kicking a 52 yarder vs. Miami on the 4th & 2 Int. There have been other opportunities since Philly and the Bills chose to punt. Todays kicker are expected to kick 55 yarders routinely. BTW he is 4 of 6 over 50 this year. even if you trust him, if it’s less than 2-3 yards the right choice for expected points scored is to go for it Quote

Maybe there simply is no-one available that is better. If he is that injured you should at least consider getting someone in house for tryouts - and maybe practice squad. I still suspect it’s primarily data driven choices but admit to not really knowing that Quote

A 50+ yarder is no gimme. Bass is 12/19 on those. I just don’t understand the risk when the defense has been lights out. Quote
