ImpactCorey Posted January 9 Posted January 9 I took all of the playoff teams and looked at what their records are against other playoff teams: Team | Record | Record against playoff teams Baltimore 13-4 6-3 Buffalo 11-6 5-1 Kansas City 11-6 1-4 Houston 10-7 2-2 Cleveland 11-6 4-3 Miami 11-6 1-5 Pittsburgh 10-7 5-3 San Fran 12-5 5-3 Dallas 12-5 3-4 Detroit 12-5 3-3 Tampa Bay 9-8 1-5 Philly 11-6 6-2 LA Rams 10-7 2-6 Green Bay 9-8 3-3 The Bills actually have the best record percentage wise and the only loss was by a 60+ yard kick in the rain. The other 5 losses were against non-playoff teams which isn't great but it bodes well that the Bills rose to the occasion against top competition. Other observations: - Not surprising the Dolphins have a terrible record against playoff teams. The narrative on them against good teams stands. - More surprising is KC also did poorly against playoff teams with only one win against Miami, the team they are playing this weekend. - Baltimore and Philadelphia had the most wins against playoff teams by only 1. - Pittsburgh actually has a strong record against playoff teams. Can't take them lightly. Granted one of those was against the Ravens backups. 2 6 Quote

They have been playing better lately and really running the ball well. Rudolph has been throwing bombs downfield to WR's, but that likely won't be happening against us, especially in the wind. This should be a 10 point win for the Bills at least if they play well, especially without TJ Watt. 2 Quote

So as you see it, if we were to lose to the Steelers for instance, then given our playoff history over the past three seasons, you wouldn't view that as any sort of issue? ngbills Posted January 9 Posted January 9 I posted on this in another thread. The flip side is that the Bills were only 6-5 vs non-playoff teams. That makes this game kind of scary bc you could argue PIT with Mason Rudolph is one of those type of non-playoff teams we played down to their level. 1 Quote
WhitewalkerInPhilly Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Thanks for running the numbers. In my head it seemed like we were beating almost all of the playoff teams we came across The shocker for me is KC: 1-4. Oof. 1 Quote
Buffalo Boy Posted January 9 Posted January 9 This team has consistently played to the level of its opponents. When we are losing to NE, NY or Denver, it sucks. When we are spanking Dallas or Josh puts out his best performance of the season against Philly, it gives much hope. This team truly can beat anyone left. But, Josh has to be on and Brady needs to be also. Quote

I guess the only consolation is that all of those losses were under a different OC. Quote

The “all of those losses” part was in context to the quoted win-loss record against non-playoff teams. Joe Brady’s offense has only lost once and it was against a playoff team. Some like to view the Bills' record from the moment of Dorsey's Firing/Brady's Hiring and indeed the Bills are 6-1 since that moment. However it's important to note that the Bills are 7-2 since the acquisitions of Rasul Douglas and Linval Joseph. The improvement of the defense is arguably as much of the reason for the late season success as the change in OCs. 1 Quote
