Wacka Posted January 14 Posted January 14 Most flights canceled Don't hear any taking off or landing. Driving ban in Erie County. Is eeriely quiet. 1 Quote

A typical 40 min drive took 2.5 hours. Would go halfway or so tonight and make the bad drive tomorrow when conditions are theoretically better. Can this be done? Quote

Consider me an amateur but at least somewhat capable for driving in bad conditions Here's a link to a bunch of traffic cams around the area; use the drop downs to check out I-90 interchanges and Rte 219 cams. Also shows updates on road closures (lots of them). Driving anywhere between Buffalo and Hamburg in the next several hours is asking for bad trouble, imo. Springfield and south of there look fine; north of the Airport looks fine. Anything in between there ranges from messy ➡️ dangerous white-out conditions. 1 Quote

Would probably stop somewhere am hour or two away from Orchard Park tonight and ideally miss the worst of the weather. Then head to the game around noon tomorrow. But I'm not familiar with how road crews and roads in the area. How clear could it be by then if the forecast holds true? Quote

Try to get to, say, Erie, PA or Fredonia, NY tonight if you can. Then leave very early for the game tomorrow because traffic and parking are going to be a mess. Parking in particular is going to be a problem. Just now, stlbills13 said: Would probably stop somewhere am hour or two away from Orchard Park tonight and ideally miss the worst of the weather. Parking will be extremely difficult because satellite lots will have difficulty opening. And stadium lots will have less capacity because there will be big piles of plowed snow. Bake in a lot of extra time for parking and walking to the stadium. And get yourself some hot hands foot and hand warmers and the cold won't bother you a bit. 1 2 Quote

Literally among the best road crews in the world up there. If you're coming from the south, that plan is very doable. Maybe try to get up as far as a Springfield/Silver Creek line? Should be lightening up by early morning and making a very manageable drive in. Quote

The main roads should be well cleared by then. Be safe. 1 Quote
PBF81 Posted January 14 Posted January 14 Anyone in the stadium area that can say how much snow is on the ground there right now? Quote

I'm not saying I would want a travel ban every day . But maybe on Sundays or once a month or something it would be nice. I'm loving how quiet it is outside. Quote

Wacka Posted January 14 Posted January 14 (edited) I live in Cheektowaga and see a hint of blue in the clouds to the north. Meanhile, to the south (stadium) it is dark and gray. My brother, a plow driver for the Erie County Highway Dept. worked a 9-PM -9 AM shift. They have them and on a 12 on-12 off schedule. Edited January 14 by Wacka 1 Quote

I’ve done it a dozen or more times. That said given the weather is do it in two but I’d go much further than half way. I’d try and make it at least to Cleveland, weather permitting. Tomorrow has the chance of not being great either, especially without having a hundreds of snow miles under your belt. You’ll want to be fresh rather than half tired and numb. Quote
Draconator Posted January 14 Posted January 14 Current conditions at my house, just down the street from the stadium. 2 1 Quote

When I say you have no idea what you will be experiencing, that's the God's honest truth. Don't do it. Basically take the worst winter Storm you've ever seen and multiply it by 3. TrentEdwardsCheckDownOn4th Posted January 14 Posted January 14 Does anyone have a live shot of orchard park? The game would be starting right about now. I'm just curious Quote
