The Texans vs Colts game is a big one.  Win and in.    But there is something else on the line:  if they tie the Bills are in!   No other games end up mattering (for playoff birth alone).

Furthermore if that game ends in a tie and Steelers and Jaguars both end up winning, both the Texans and Colts are out.

If I was the one scripting the NFL, this is the curveball I'd throw out there.

The odds of a tie are probably about the same as they were for a Dalton-to-Boyd 49-yard TD pass on 4th-and-12 with under a minute to play against the Ravens' D.

Should be a great game.

Houston was my pick for surprise team before the season started. Win or lose I feel good about that prediction.

Minshew was who I wanted the Bills to get as Josh's back up. He signed for $3.5M. We took Kyle Allen at just over $1M. Still would have rather had Minshew.

I like the Texans with CJ Stroud in this game. Motor Singletary has been solid for them this year as well.  The winner here has a good chance of playing the #2 seed...that could be us.

Does it have implications for us if one or the other of them win?

Whether they make the playoffs or not the Texans had a great year. Nobody had predicted them to be in the playoffs. DeMeco Ryans deserves strong consideration for coach of the year, but I think it will go to Dan Campbell since the Lions won their division.

If either of them wins, it puts the Steelers-Ravens and Jags-Titans games in play (and of course the Bills game).

Ties are rare in the NFL. You get an average of maybe one a year.

The reason why no one is talking about it is that whoever gets in is on the short list to get bounced Wild Card Weekend. This isn't even a "oh the Bills are going to roll them", I think that no matter where the winner of this game gets seeded it's on the road vs Miami, Buffalo, KC at home against Cleveland and I would call them the underdog in all of those scenarios, and the road doesn't get much easier after that.

I have to say I don't want the Bills playing the colts if they win.  Feels like a really bad matchup.

you are either good enough or you are not.

You have a better chance of seeing snow in July then you do in seeing this game end in a tie.

Just so happens i saw snow all summer, great quality too, barely stepped on snow if ya catch my drift

I put together this helpful diagram in game time order so you you know that stakes as we approach the Bills game Sunday night.

Nope. Winner would be ahead of us if we lose and behind us if we win. Loser or tie-er behind us no matter what.

The loser is guaranteed to miss the playoffs, and the winner is guaranteed in (I think). A tie could possibly eliminate both teams, depending on other games. So it’s pretty unlikely either team will play for a tie, but that’s true in 99.9% of all games and ties still happen occasionally.

Personally, I want more ties, not less. I liked the Bills’ OT proposal to eliminate sudden death and play a full quarter. At least for postseason anyway. If the NFL is serious about wanting to limit OT (shortening to 10min, e.g.), they should just make ties the default in the regular season and only add OT for the playoffs.
