EasternOHBillsFan Posted January 5 Posted January 5 Although Beane whiffed with Von Miller it seems, the pickup of Rasul Douglas has made up for this deficiency, and McD choosing to sit him is really the best move. The response to criticism that Beane and McD have had has been positive and I applaud them for doing what is necessary. 1 Quote

He also sacked Cousins to force that insane 4th and 18 Jefferson catch. He was something special to watch and it's a darn shame as he could've gone down as one of the best signings in Bills history. That really is the sad part of the situation. I am not convinced from what I've seen from him that that player will ever be seen again. He turned into a boat anchor on this team because of that contract. Edited January 5 by JackKemp Quote
JohninMinn. Posted January 5 Posted January 5 It's a big game start him. Hall of Famers rise to the occasion. Quote

If you had said this on day #1 after his signing, then you are a wise GM. However, if Josh blows out his elbow Sunday for career ending injury--is Allen an "absolute horrible signing"?? Injury is part of this game. That said, I've been saying spend on WR2 since Brown/Beasley left. The Miller signing was a McCappy "D bling" thing. 1 Quote
Royale with Cheese Posted January 5 Posted January 5 Looking at the optimistic side, he's a 1st ballot HOF and got benched....that's a major shot to his pride and maybe this motivates him. He hasn't lost his burst, he just doesn't bend or change levels at all. He's equivalent to a pitcher throwing fastballs without any movement and right over the plate. 2 Quote

He should have deactivated himself a month ago if he is this aware. My impression is they had hope that removing the knee brace would kick start things. And he did show a couple sparks after taking the brace off, but obviously it was still way below an acceptable level of performance. Edited January 5 by strive_for_five_guy Quote

The player's reported concern isn't strength or what is referred to as power, I think, in the interview. Jones' concern or uncertainty is over what sounds like flexibility and ability to rely on the repaired area under dynamic football conditions. He reportedly feels fine in the weight room. Now he needs to see how he feels on the field, where strength is tested under far less static and controlled conditions. Basically, can he be explosive and violent in 2-5 second bursts of combat against NFL linemen? 2 hours ago, Scott7975 said: How does a player take a "pay cut?" I don't think they can. At least not in a way that helps the Bills other than some salary cap space by extending him and giving him more guaranteed money. I have never heard of this. Even if they could... what person would do this? Didn't Aaron Rodgers do that this year? Quote
JGMcD2 Posted January 5 Posted January 5 Lord. The revisionist history with this signing is hysterical. 1 1 Quote

2003Contenders Posted January 5 Posted January 5 Something that I just realized -- the Bills record over the last 2 seasons when Von is NOT on the field is exemplary. Recall that he went down in the Detroit game last season -- and the Bills won every regular season game after that. This year he was inactive for the first four games -- and the only one of those games the Bills lost was the Jets game in which the defense played well -- and we lost because Josh was careless with the football. In fact, when Von was inserted this season (against the Jags) that is when our of our troubles began. Interesting. Not sure how much of this is coincidence, the surrounding players stepping it up knowing that he is out, changes to defense alignment, etc. He did have some key plays last season -- but has been mostly invisible this season. NoSaint Posted January 5 Posted January 5 32 minutes ago, Steptide said: Wasn't stars contract only 2 years though? yea but he sucked, while von simply got hurt. I think misjudging a player completely is worse than the cards simply coming up poorly. the only interesting piece I see in this situation with Vons comment is that if he believes he should be a healthy scratch, there is always the chance that he will think he should retire- especially if this stretches into a playoff run and he’s not capable even another month removed from the injury. If he thought we were doing him wrong that would be a different story all together. 11 minutes ago, Scott7975 said: Yes, but I am trying to understand how it works. There has to be some kind of downside for the team. you could straight up reduce your salary. 99% that we see are restructures, like you reference. However if your alternative is getting cut and you don’t think the market is there to sign another deal for as much money you could work a middle ground with the team to reduce salary going forward while allowing them to avoid accelerating cap hits that create big dead money. The downside to the team is you are likely paying the player at or above market rate but with the upside of reducing pay and cap hits in the contract Quote

FilthyBeast Posted January 5 Posted January 5 I'm still curious to see if this was a one game type of thing or he's in fact done for the year, and possibly done as a Buffalo Bill altogether. Still not sure how this team can move on from him though unless he's suspended by the NFL or agrees to some sort of restructure that allows the Bills to pay him to leave without major negative cap ramifications. Physically the knee is repaired and ready to go, mentally he doesn’t trust it yet. take him to indy, mcafee can bang on it with that 'ringing of the shoe' hammer. thatll show him he can trust it again Quote
